Habits/Hobbies:
Llewellyn's truly noticeable habits are rarely seen, particularly by those who do not travel with him frequently. This is largely because he spends most of his time in the thick of the wilderness, traveling alone and silently scouting out any threats to nature. When nervous, he tends to bite his nails while staring absentmindedly away from the subject of his nerves. His daily routine consists of rising just before dawn to check on the benefactors of his protection, which can range from the small sprig of a nearly extinct tree to an entire herd of animals, followed by a quick forage for breakfast and exercise. Afterwards, he can often be found at a makeshift shrine to Mielikki for afternoon meditation.

As a young child, Llewellyn took an active role assisting his foster parents on the farm. This developed in him a passion for nurturing all types of plants from birth to death, and one of his specialties in nursing sick or hurt plants and trees back to health. He spends much of his days walking through the forests of the Realms and tending to the earth, fishing, or whittling deadwood into various figures to leave on shrines or give to friends.

Description:
Llewellyn is an introverted and reserved young-man, preferring most often to listen to others speak. In spite of this he is an inventive and curious individual not lacking in intelligence or wisdom, taking actions over words. When he speaks he does so with a [Lore Check: 20 DC] Ffolkan accent in a thoughtful manner, with words that are as concise as they are genuine. He is caring, protective, and faithful both to those under his care and his close friends. However, when he believes that an idea or course of action has even the slightest chance of harming a forest under his care (even to the benefit of "civilization") he tends to quickly become defiant and determined, not hesitating to confront others or take independent action himself if necessary.

He does not care much for the laws of civilization, but he doesn't go out of his way to break them. To him the laws of nature hold much higher sway and does not err in its judgment, nor does it stray from justice the way mortal law can. He is just as likely to confront a just and fair city as he is to confront a tyrannical and oppressive city, depending on the way they treat the environment. That isn't to say he does not have his own ideals or standards of how others are to be treated. He is far more likely to befriend a good person than an evil one, and will not pause to liberate an oppressed people if doing so will benefit (or at least not harm) nature.

Something that Llewellyn has a plethora of, yet does not completely understand, is love and compassion. It is, of course, both a strength and a weakness. His primary love, first and foremost, is for the natural world around him. He is constantly in awe of its primal beauty and raw energy from the immensity of the night sky to the smallest of squirrels. Nothing that any wizard or cleric could conjure would ever match the magic of a full moon gliding above a pristine lake in his eyes. His second love is for the Supreme Ranger, the Goddess Mielikki, who he has wholly devoted his life and faith to following. Lastly, his love for his siblings of the Elder Circle and devoted friends is what frequently uplifts him when something weighs heavily upon him. He thoroughly enjoys the company of these people, but he does see the relationships as a weakness at times - one of his greatest mistakes as a ranger came when he chose a friend over his obligation to defend a forest. This isn't something easily forgotten for him.

Despite this depth of love for those around him, he has always had trouble understanding romantic love - for Llewellyn being within the natural realm is as blissful a feeling as he can imagine. He could not see feeling as he does for nature for another human or any other race. That's not to say he has never felt attraction; he considers the races of Faerûn to be beautiful creations of the natural order themselves. Yet he has not felt a strong desire to pair up with someone else the way others do, and this isn't something he has come to understand.

Strengths: Compassionate, Knowledgeable (Nature), Brave, Trustworthy.
Weaknesses: Introvert, Tactless, Nervous tick
“I don't like to give up on people when they need someone not to give up on them.”
Moonshae Isles to Amn [Pre-Sword Coast Background]

WORK IN PROGRESS

Lew was born on Norland of the Moonshae Isles, but did not grow up there. He was taken from the islands not long after his birth by his foster parents, both middle aged farmers in an idyllic village on the outskirts of Amn. Despite persistent questions, they refused to tell him what became of his birth parents. So he grew up exploring the wilderness and getting into trouble. His mentor, an elven druid, was first encountered in the Forest of Shadows. He taught him how to tend to nature, and had been nurturing him to become a druid until both of his foster parents passed away. Lew and the druid came to a heated argument over intervention in the affairs of the world. He couldn't understand true neutrality, and firmly held that all protectors of nature should take an active role in the shaping of civilizations.
The Sword Coast: Timeline Summary
Hidden: show
WORK IN PROGRESS

Goals:
See the Elder Circle grow and strengthen, allowing them to cleanse tainted land in the region and make clear the consequences for any civilization that seeks to expand too rapidly.
Cleanse the taint from the Woods of Sharpteeth, and nurse the diseased forest back to health.
Cleanse Triel from its current diseases, assist in bringing life back to the area and defend it from further offenses.
Discover who his biological parents are.
  • He doesn't know his birthplace on the Moonshae Isles, nor does he know anything beyond that his foster parents are not his biological parents.

Possible Plot-Hooks:
Any plots surrounding the Elder Circle and the Balance.
Mentoring and training new rangers.

Favored Enemies
Orcs
  • Llewellyn's hatred for orcs stems from their characteristic blood lust and destructiveness. In their drive for conquest and battle, they tend to burn their way through many forests slaughtering without regard to the Balance. While he would not hesitate to kill most orcs, he understands that there are some who are more subdued by the blood of other races and would not immediately loath a half-orc.
Undead
  • Called by his duty as a Ranger of the Elder Circle, and a faithful of Mielikki, Llewellyn seeks to purge these unholy perversions of life. Not only does he actively stalk and slay all forms of undead, but he will also not hesitate to kill anyone who defiles life in such a way.
Reptilian Humanoids
  • Not as understandable among his kin, Llewellyn holds a special fervor in his heart for hunting lizardkin and the Saurial. While they are quite feral, and the more belligerent of their clans can do harm to the forests they frequently dwell in, it is no more so than the cradles of civilizations that Llewellyn visits. Indeed, it has taken him many years to distinguish the lizardkin of the Sword Coast from those who frequently attacked his home village when he was young.
Misc Facts
Llewellyn is not a big fan of dark caves - he's actually afraid of true darkness and will only go within if driven by duty as a ranger.
Inspiration for the character drawn from Tanis Half-Elven (Dragonlance Chronicles) and Bowen (Dragonheart).
He is dedicated to ridding the world of evil, but also believes that power inherently breeds evil. For that reason, he is wary about organizations or individuals attaining too much power - even those with noble intent.
