Background: Kel'lara was born and raised in Maerimydra, a thriving Drow city located underneath the Dalelands to a minor noble house known as Quellar Do'rret. His childhood was hard, as it should be for a male. He was raised mostly by the servants of the house, his parents wanting little to do with him since he wasn't female. He grew up believing himself to be inferior to females; always bowing to one of higher ranking as they walked by, doing the bidding of the Reverend Mother of his Quellar etc. When he was old enough he attended school, learning about the Dark Seldarine and the superior one known as Lolth, whom he was taught to fear above all else. As he grew, he became more and more interested in war, learning as much as he could on the tactics that were used in famous Drow campaigns. He took up the art of swordplay when he was an adolescent, deciding that if he could not promote himself through the clergy of Lolth then he would become a military general, commanding other soldiers who would do his bidding or die. He trained with a large group of other adolescent Drow, all just as ambitious as he was, under their mentor. He plotted and schemed, poisoning his fellow classmates whom he believed would become a problem later, all the while watching his own back for similar actions on him.
Because of his carefulness and cunning he rose, becoming the mentor's favorite pupil, whom Kel eventually killed as well and took his place as a mentor. He taught other aspiring youth the art of swordplay and warfare till his 50's, where he decided it was time to further his own plans of becoming a military general for his own house. As the years grew he slowly and slowly gained prestige in his house, eventually leading a small group of forces, whom under the military general's command would ambush rivaling houses forces who displeased the Matron Mother of his house, Quellar Do'rret. During one of these battles an attempt was made on his life by a subordinate, one that nearly succeeded and forced him to flee the battle, wounded. Disgraced, his quellar disowned him, making multiple attempts on his life the next few years as he tried to scrounge a living off of the streets. The attempts on his life became too much for him, so he left Maerimydra, ashamed of himself and angry that all of the power he had built up over the years was taken away from him in just a few short days.
He wandered around for a few decades, living from city to city, joining mercenary forces when he could, leaving when he felt the time was right. One group in particular he became quite close with, staying with them for a few years. During one excursion where they were tasked with raiding a supply caravan from a rivaling city, they in turn were ambushed by a deep dragon, who slaughtered all but the few who managed to escape. Kel watched as his companion's skin melted off the bone from the dragon's corrosive breath. The last few survivors banded together, trying to complete the contract they were originally set out to do. The dragon stalked them, slowly picking the last survivors off over the next two days. Kel decided that the contract wasn't worth it, and left the group before the dragon could get to him.
A few years went by before Kel decided to settle down in a small town of escaped slaves. His lust for power had faded away over the years, the anger that drove him slowly dying down. He cared little for Lolthite society and the constant scheming that was ever present in the major cities if the Underdark. About a year after he settled down he began having dreams of the Dark Maiden, beckoning him to continue his journey. He knew little of her, and what he did know was biased, since it was taught by those who revered and feared Lolth. These dreams continue to came for a year or so, after which he left that small town and cotinued travelling.
Either through the guidance of Eilistraee or the fact that he had already traveled vast amounts of the Underdark, he came upon Skullport, a place where Lolth's rule wasn't adamant. He quickly found work, taking contracts as he did before, becoming a guard for one of the slave caravans. A couple years of this guard work went on before he came in contact with a small group of drow, most of whom were performers while all were followers of Eilistraee. He took an interest in them, believing that they were the reason why the Dark Maiden kept visiting him in his dreams. After about a month or so of watching them perform, he joined up with them, travelling through parts of the Upperdark. He learned how to play the flute and sing songs that were not revering Lolth and her clergy. His time with them was short however, for within a few years of him joining them the group was attacked by some slave-traders. Kel and a few others held the slave-traders off while the rest retreated, and Kel along with the others who weren't killed were taken prisoner, sentenced to become slaves.
The traders made their way to Sschindylryn, to sell them off to someone who either needed slaves or sacrifices to Lolth. Kel escaped the slave-traders within a few cycles, stole back his gear as well as some extra coin and fled. He came across a caravan heading towards Sshamath, who took him in as a temporary guard, needing the extra muscle. After having come to Sshamath, he paid the caravan off with some of the gold he had left and decided it was time to once again, make a new life for him, away from the control of Lolth.
