Brakk Soulstone

Unread post by Aethan »

First Name: Brakk
Last Name: Soulstone

Appearance:
A tall and dark skinned man in his early twenties. He built somewhat like an athlete, very much in peak physical form. His features are rugged and angular, but he is quite handsome physically all the same. His black hair hangs in short dreadlocks, earthy-brown highlights near their ends. Most often, he is clean shaven. His armor, when worn, is clearly well maintained. He almost always prominently displays a Warhammer at his belt. Strikingly, his eyes are a pale blue shade that contrast with his skin and apparent ethnicity.

Race: Human
Age: 24
Height 6'5"
Weight: 235lbs unarmored
Eyes: Pale blue
Hair: Black, with earth brown highlights
Facial Hair Style: None

Personality Profile:
Brakk is friendly and polite, though his manner of speaking is often over-dramatic and foreign sounding in the ways he uses words and forms sentences. He can often be stubborn, very much set in his traditional ways. Patience is probably his key virtue, as he often times will take his time preparing for things - much to the dismay of those around him. He is as a rock when his mind is made up, and in his beliefs.

General Health: Excellent
Deity: Grumbar
Initial Alignment: Neutral Good
Profession: Explorer, Adventurer, Mercenary
Base Class & Proposed Development: Favored Soul (Cleric with Earth and Darkness domains, and Rogue split)

Habits/Hobbies:
He has many habits, particularly regarding prayer. When beseeching his Lord for a blessing or guidance, he will often kneel and press his hand into the ground as if he can better feel his God therein. When underground, he will more often bring up his Lord in conversation, and often acts reverently there - as if in a temple. Before going out on a mission that might involve combat, he is known to meticulously clean and inspect his armor and weapon, as well as drawing runes on them with wet soil. Often times, those runes are simply the symbol of Grumbar stylistically applied.
Languages: Common, Dwarf, Mulhorandi
Weapon of Choice: Warhammer

Background:
He won't readily talk much about it, but he is originally from a region of Mulhorand (or near enough). He refers to it simply as his Homeland, and is silent on the topic when pressed. The truth is, his youth there became troubled early on and he felt compelled to leave. As a boy, his parents were mystified by him. He often referred to Grumbar then as the Lord of the Land below the Roots. He had never in fact heard of the God Grumbar, and nor had most folk in his village. To hear him casually refer to such a being was something akin to hearing a man speak of demons below, and even his parents thought him to be speaking of the Hells. It was often obvious that he was shunned and excluded from what the the other youths were allowed to take part in. His natural ability to draw people to him led many parents to forbid their children from associating with him - and by extension his family.

He often wondered why this was, and why he felt such a connection to the earth. In his later teenage years, he saved what he was able and ordered books on the Earthlord. He discovered just what he feared, that he had known much of this his entire life yet never had he actively learned the information. Though the name Grumbar was new to him, it was more as if a veil had been lifted from his eyes than it was that he had learned something new and exciting. It explained his natural stubbornness, his reverence for Oaths and the sanctity of a man's Word. It put him at ease as to why he was drawn to the mines to make an honest salary, and why he often wished he had a proper hammer rather than the pickaxes with a hammer side that they often used. He hated the work there, but he felt comfortable beneath the earth with that tool in his hands.. it was the most sensible way to earn the coin for his books, in his mind.

Sadly, it was those very books that drove him away. His parents found the tomes in his room, and in their ignorance they were confirmation that their son was consorting with powers that were not appropriate for men. They demanded he renounce this elemental God and join a respectable church... but to even his own surprise, Brakk found the very suggestion of this to be so vile he nearly sicked up. He felt as if destiny had led him to this choice, though it seemed hardly a choice at all. Something within him pulled him towards faith in little worshipped God, to be a pillar of his dogma and show His word through his own works in the world.

Now, taking the surname Soulstone (something that simply made sense to him, much like his faith had simply been), he finds himself outside Baldur's Gate. What will he discover? Will his destiny lead him to greatness? Will his life have meaning? There is much unrest here along the Sword Coast, much change. Perhaps this place needs a reminder that change is not always good, that it brings instability and conflict.

Goals:
  • *To spread knowledge of Grumbar
*To show through his deeds the value in solidarity
*To establish contacts that will help to stabilize the region
*To explore the many natural caverns and ancient underground ruins of the area
*To achieve enough personal power to fight back against the unrest that threatens society here
Possible Plot-Hook Ideas and Misc Facts:
  • *Though devout, he often feels trapped by fate in his faith. His stubbornness is often a prison, and he struggles to convince himself he must remain firm and avoid change.

*His adherence to traditions is often a distraction. He can often be drawn to them like a moth to the flame, finding an ancient tradition enticing. Discovery of old traditions and practices that have fallen into obscurity could entice him to attempt to bring them back into practice simply for the sake of it - despite what the tradition is or for what purpose it existed.

*Anything that questions his faith can be a great conflict for him. His faith is more a feeling - an intuition - than a true form of worship. He might be hard pressed to argue for it on a larger scale.

*Though his Lord is neutral in nature, he is only partially so. His heart is good and he seeks to do good in this world, though it is possible his faith may bring change to that outlook. It is very possible he will be drawn to darker paths.
