The tournament of single elimination duels will be split into two skill brackets. A Lower division for competent swordsmen ((level 20 and lower)), and an Upper division for master swordsmen ((level 21 and above)). The winners take all prize for each division will consist of half of the entry fees for that division. The other half will be put towards the donations collected.

Entrances into the Lower division will stop being accepted as the second round concludes, it is advised participants in the lower bracket arrive early given the Lower division will be played till its completion before the Upper division commences. Entrances to the Upper division will stop being accepted once the first round of the Upper division is completed.

There will be open collections for donations on the day for charity. Betting will also be facilitated with a small portion of the winning bets going towards charity.

Betting:
  • There will be two types of bets. Betting for a favourite of a specific duel, and betting for the overall winner of the Upper division.
  • Bets for the overall winner of the Upper division will stop being accept once it commences, barring placing bets for late comers within the first round.
  • Bets for specific duels can be placed in advanced and will stop being accepted for when that specific duel begins.
  • The return on bets will not be a flat rate, however a proportionate share of the losing bets. Winners will receive their placed bet back in full, however all winnings will be subject to a 20% levy which will contribute to the charity efforts.
For example; Should you place a 300 gold bet upon swordsman one who has a total bet of 1,000 gold upon him, including your 300 gold bet, and swordsman one wins their match you would receive your 300 gold bet back untaxed, along with 30 percent of the losing bets that had been placed upon swordsman two, minus the 20% charity levy.
  • There will be a board with live updates of the bets laid upon each match, along with announcements of the bet standings throughout the tournament so that betters can weigh the odds of the matches appropriately.
Tournament Rules:
  • Spellcasters will be allowed only two preparatory wards before the round starts.
  • The use of any of items that have spell, or spell like properties are prohibited. Including but not limited to wands, scrolls and potions.

(( 11th of April, starting 20:00 GMT (Forum Clock), Divine Might/Shield are allowed, Supernatural abilities that have spell like effects will be considered apart of the preparatory wards (ie favoured souls or warpriests haste) ))

Those within Baldur's Gate may have heard rumour from travelers through the northern Gate of the arena north of the city being alive with metallic rings of swords against shield this evening. Those that bore witness to it would have spoken of Knights, Priests sparring honourably and even a match between a novice Squire and past Militia woman, all in front of a small crowd that had gathered. The matches had a friendly tone to them, the only tension that rose was from the closeness of the duels.

The evening came to a close with a final match between the Head Watchknight herself and a man many have come to know as Crow. Fighting without her shield the Helmite seemed resolute in her goal to break through Crow's own, a battle that through many long bouts saw little success for her. A mixture of perplexment and astonishment could be seen through her open visor helmet as she crossed steps with the man. Charging forward once more her sword this time did not swing with the momentum, instead channeling through her shoulder as it crashed into his shield in attempt of knocking him off balance. His shield, not his body found its way to the ground against the Watchknights charge. Attempting to seize the moment of confusion, unconventionally for a duel, Sveta allowed her sword to fall from her hands thunderously charging upon him once more in attempts to grapple him into submission. This time the balance of Sveta's charge was caught by Crow, using her weight against herself she found herself crashing to the floor of the arena, her helmet coming free. However instead of pressing his advantage the pair seemed to come to an agreement, the duel was to be concluded on another day. A look of determination was clear on Sveta's face as she made her way into the gate. One day that shield will break to her.

The impromptu gathering of arms could be considered a prelude to the tournament now only three days away.

A stoic looking wood elf wearing a red cloak pauses to regard the posted notice, his gloved hand tenderly tracing a new-found burn along his jaw and cheek as he does. His twin eyes keenly travel the page up and down in synchronicity, despite a noticeable vertical claw mark that has rendered his left eye to a milky white state.

Upon finishing reading the poster the muscular elf would pat the curved long blade of elven make sheathed on his back...

"So, Orch'dagnir, it seems a worthy opportunity has presented itself to test our worth. Let us see what mettle this tournament will offer to parry your strokes..."
There are no level 30's, only level 20's with benefits...

There is activity at the arena north of Baldur's Gate as preparations for the tournament begin. Two notice boards are setup with the empty brackets for each division.

Upper Division

Lower Division

If asked the numbers below the names are the betting totals placed upon each competitor for the specific duel to allow people to weigh their odds. It is said there will be live updated as bets are made.

The first signups have already begun.

(( You can treat the google docs as IC boards of the tournament, they will be updated as people register for the tournament and place bets. Again, winning bets get a share of the losing bets.

Here is a preview of the betting book I'm using so you can get an idea of the returns.
Image
As you can see the returns on the bets for Mealir are far better than Ameris given he seems to be the crowd favourite and the higher bets. Sometimes it might be worth the risk placing a bet for the underdog if there are huge bets on the favourites. Losing bets get no returns. The return figures are including return of the placed bets.
Tournament is to start 1 hour and 40 minutes from this post ))

*It is rumored that the The Dreadlord of Darkhold was allowed to attend the event only after seeking the permission of the Flaming Fist and the Helmite Sveta Asperan, the event organizer, and thereafter obtaining, and paying for, a proper permit to attend the event with Flaming Fist authorization. In doing so, it is said he swore to the Flaming Fist and the Helmite that he would immediately leave Duchal lands after the event concluded.*

Fight for Life
A charity tournament

Image
Rumours would circulate Baldur's Gate about the charity tournament hosted in the arena north of the city by Head Watchknight Sveta Asperan to raise funds for operations to see the restoration of strength to the impoverished people of Baldur's Gate. There would be talk of many close matches, some swift gritty battles, overs drawn out fights to the bitter end. The shield of the dwarf Revenark seemed unbreakable by his opponents and to most was the clear favourite in his final match against Talisen. The final battle of the tournament however was far closer than most expected, it looked for a brief moment that Revenark was going to falter under the piercing strikes of Talisen. However the dwarven resilience pressed through as Revenark moved on to take the trophy and cash award over Talisen.

The lower division was taken by A Har Thar after defeating the host herself, Sveta Asperan, in the finals. The lower division sway a wide range of skills, a hin with a crossbow by the name Tommy almost took down A Har Thar in the semifinal. Sveta the other finalist found difficulty in keeping her sword within her hands as she was repeatedly disarmed by her opponent Arakes, it was only when she dropped her shield and took upon her sword by both hands that did she manage to land deadly blows opponent which saw her advance through.

It is said with the permission and careful watch of the Flaming Fist a representative of the Darkhold was allowed entry. It seemed that without authority from the Flaming Fist he would have been barred entry, even with their approval the Head Watchknight allowed it very much begrudgingly.

Speculations may suggest the amount raised for charity was over the amount of 100,000.
