Nalil De Morte, The Story Thus Far.

Unread post by Wolfrayne »

(This is a recollection of events experienced from the point of view of Nalil De Morte, some things may or may not be true but they are only one persons point of view)

Skills and Personality
Nalil is a Cleric/Paladin in the service of Torm. She is capable of holding her own in a fight but she shines best when working with others. She finds it sometimes difficult to balance her faith and duty against her personal feelings involved with her family. a firm believer that family and faith come before personal gain and she does her best to live up to it, She is always willing to stop and help those in need and is never shy to turn away from evil no matter how powerful it may be believing that her faith in Torm will see her through.

Brief History
Nalil De Morte is one of the most promising members of the House De Morte Cleregy, Even from a young age she was able to use healing magics. The De Morte family has always been in the service to Torm and the city of Neverwinter, a small noble house who helped to train the city watch (and even some of the Neverwinter Nine) Nalil spent most of her time in meditation and prayer or training in combat with her cousins Guy De Morte and Catelyn De Morte. while she never showed as much prowess one the battlefield her skills as a healer were never questioned.

The house has not long ago been betrayed by a member who was found to be dealing in necromantic magic, Catelyn De Morte was sent to Baldurs Gate to try and track this man down and seek Justice for the sake of the families honor, when hearing of this news Nalil pleaded with her parents to allow her to take leave and follow. Now Nalil and her cousins are on the hunt and its only a matter of time before they find and stop him.

Nalil's Side of the Family
Father - Darcius De Morte, Paladin to Torm
Mother - Eliza De Morte, Cleric and High Priestess to Torm
Siblings - Nalil is the oldest of 3 children, she has a younger brother and sister twins (No names yet as they may be played by other people who wish to join in the story)

Current Events
Many things have happened in the short time that Nalil has been in the sword coast most importantly was the task set before her and her cousins by their parents. Upon arrival in Baldurs Gate Nalil set out to find her cousins who had arrived shortly before herself, Catelyn had set out to make contacts in order to track down the man known as Dominic (not currently a player or NPC) who had betrayed the family trust.

Catelyn, Guy and Nalil had met up in FAI to discuss what their next steps had been, After a rather long discussion it had been established that Dominic was currently in hiding in Amn and was gathering followers continuing his necromantic work. Catelyn's source of information came from a man known only as Perin, and after some convincing Cate had told us that the price for this information was nothing more than a Dinner with just her and Perin. Guy (Catelyn's Oldest Brother) was convinced that this man was after more than just a dinner with his sister. Many heated words were crossed but in the end Nalil and Guy had decided to trust in Cate's choices and so the arrangement was agreed upon.

It was much later learned that Cate and Perin's dinner had blossomed into something much more than just a business deal and that feelings had been developed between the two. Guy was furious and threating all sorts of actions on his sister if she didnt cease seeing Perin. Nalil was just as concerned as her cousin about Cate however after a long discussion with Cate in private it was obvious to her that Cate was just as much taken with Perin. Deciding to put it behind her for the time being she concerntrated on training and helping other people until they could act against Dominic.

Wardens of Beregost!
While on her way through Beregost one day Nalil had bore witness to the murder of some of the Lathanderites in town, The Commander Dean Sonlite and Sergent Marjolaine De Rose were present and questioning the people in the area at the time, after a short investigation there were no charges placed as there was lacking evidence to convict anyone. After the discussion the commander was approached by a man claiming to be a sage, the man was assured that there was a great evil approaching and soon and that if not met with equal force there would be no town left, The Commander asked if Nalil and Cate (who had met with Nalil in town shortly after the murders) would be willing to come with them to see if the old mans claims were true.

They proceeded North towards FAI when they were suddenly ambushed by undead soldiers on their way to the town, these simple creatures were no match for the group and were dispatched quickly, off in the distance a large dark armored Figure atop a fiery steed was heading in their direction. The group moved towards this seemingly new threat who was being followed by a rather large number of Undead. The dark figure dismounted and walked towards the group, taking off its helm it spoke to them in a voice so cold it chilled the very bone. He claimed to be a long dead king who was unable to rest until a great "devil" was destroyed and that he would destroy all who got in his way.

Commander Sonlite issued the orders for the group to attack and stop this king before he caused any more harm, the group quickly dispatched of the King who left nothing but a pile of ashes and a Warmly glowing lute which was picked up by Commander Sonlite, however they were far from done. The army of undead enraged at the destruction of their leader attacked, Skeletons in the dozens with a Dracolich at the head of the group attacked the group in what seemed like endless waves. It seemed as if the group was doomed when Nalil noticed that the lute the Commander had was humming lightly as if wanting to be played, Yelling for the Commander to pass the lute to Marjolaine who was skilled with such instruments they continued to fight off undead and then it happened.

The moment Marjolaine started to play there was blinding flashes of light and waves of warmth washed over the group and once Marj had finished playing the undead had been destroyed. The group took a moment to regain itself as to not collapse with exhaustion when suddenly a massive portal opened up spewing out demons by the dozens, with the help of some passing adventurer's the demons were evetually driven back, however the leader of the group who had escaped back in the portal had shouted back a threat saying that their days were all numbered.

Eventually the group made their way back to Beregost were Warden Commander offered both Nalil and Catelyn a place in the wardens, at this time Nalil and Cate both declined as they had other matters to deal with regarding the family however both agreed that if Commander Sonlite needed their help all he had to do was ask.

MVTC, Tabot!

While sitting in the inn with Cate The girls were approached by a man offering work, Catelyn who was distressed due to her brother and issues with Perin was not interested in discussing it however Nalil thought perhaps it would be a good way to take their mind off current events, After a long discussion with the man who when by the name of Tabot, Nalil learned that he was looking to rebuild the town of Neshkal and remove the dark stains of the past that were known withing the town.

Tabot admited that some of the people in his employ were not "paladin like" in their behaviour but they still served a purpose, After some convincing Nalil agreed to sign up and work for the MVTC for a short time however her motives where not the same as Tabot, she was going to use the company and its position to bring Justice and Honor to the people of Neshkal in the hopes that they would rise up and remove those corrupt and evil from the ranks of their town.

Much later on Nalil was convinced by Commander Sonlite that some of the members of MVTC were not the sort of people a Paladin should associate with, Nalil has also been led to believe that their ranks include assasins, crooks and even an Ex Banite. After hearing nothing but Ill of the MVTC Nalil resigned and instead took on a job as a warden of Beregost.

The incident in the burning wizard inn!

Few weeks passed and very little of note seemed to happen, Cate and Perin were getting closer by the day, Guy and Nalil did not approve however Perin had approached Nalil to say that he was willing to prove himself worthy of Cate and that he wanted to atone for his sins pf the past, Nalil decided that she would give him the chace to do so however if he was to slip up there would be no forgiveness and the next time they meet she would see justice done.

Later that night Guy and Cate had their usual arguments regarding Perin in which Cate let slip that Perin was "The Shadowmaster of Amn" (may not be exactly what was said but my memory is a little fuzzy) Outraged at this Guy left to do attend to some "business" in Baldurs Gate forbidding Cate to see Perin ever again, Defiant to the end Cate did not heed her Brothers orders.

The next day after patroling Beregost, Nalil stopped into the Burning Wizard to have a drink when she spotted Catelyn sitting over by a table with Perin standing nearby. She approached them to find that Perin has a knife pointed to Cate and was threating to kill her for betraying his trust, Without a second thought Nalil drew her sword and warned Perin to drop his weapon or else she would be forced to cut him down were he stood. He just grinned and held the knife there, "ill count to 3 and if you want to save her you better stop me" he said before starting to count, without a second thought Nalil Slashed at Perin causing him to bleed from a massive chest wound.

As Perin fell to the floor bleeding the Barkeep and several onlookers started yelling and running to the door to alert the gaurds, Catelyn looked to her cousin and started to beg that she spare his life and that there was more to this than first met the eye, Nalil got down and disarmed and bound Perin before healing his wounds enough for him to live. By this time the local gaurd had arrived and was questioning what was going on, Nalil told the gaurd that she was a Warden to Beregost and that Perin had threatened to kill her cousin.

After some quick discussion Perin was taken to the Barracks and locked up in a cell with Cate, the Gaurd who later introduced himself as Dawnbringer Dannon and Nalil. Dannon began asking questions as to what was going on and after words had been exchanged it was learnt that Perin had done all of this to protect Cate, he believed that because she had let slip about who he was that she would be killed and as such he was going to stage her death and give his own life instead to save hers. Nalil did not approve of his methods at all, Furious that she would agree to such things many heated words were traded, in the end Perin was set free with a massive fine and he took off into the dark streets of Beregost with Cate at his heels.

Not knowing what she should do next Nalil took the long trip to Baldurs to Pray at the Temple to Torm to help guide her where to go next, Nalil did not wish to see her Cousins heart broken but she could not ignore the dangers that Perin would bring to the Family.

In the next few days that passed Nalil and her cousins had eventually cooled down and were once again on talking terms, Cate however refused to give up seeing Perin, Guy swore to kill him if he showed his face however Nalil was certain that would only bring more pain and suffering to the family and as such decided to let things be for a time.

The sneaky Elf!

In their Adventures the De Morte have met many interesting people, one such person was an elf by the name of Vistamix. Vistamix seemed to take a liking to Cate and spent much of his time following her and trying to imitate the "noble" way of behaviour.

While Nalil considered him harmless she was still very cautious about what was said while he was around as they could not let slip the reason they were in Baldurs in case Dominic got wind of it, However while having a long talk about their business Nalil caught Vistamix poking around outside the door trying to listen in, she quickly saw him out of the area however she caught him again trying to sneak in using his invisibility magic which did not fool her truesight ward.

Nalil was convinced that Vistamix was up to no good but wether it was his own being or if someone else was using him was not known to her until just recently.

More complications?

While out in FAI shopping for equipment Nalil was approached by her cousin Guy who seemed extremely upset by something, after asking Guy what was wrong he led her into the inn to meet up with Cate, and in the room on the bed was Vistamix who looked incredibly beaten up, Nalil worked out quicky that the wounds were from interogation, Guy had taken it upon himself to get answers as to why vistamix was following them.

Nalil who was a skilled healer checked over Vistamix healing his wounds and while doing so she came across a bandage on his shoulder that wasnt from her, reaching to have a look Vistamix yelled at her to back away from it, Seeminly in panic Nalil calmed Vistamix and asked the others to leave the room. After they left she managed to convince Vistamix to let her have a look at the "wound"

Removing the bandage showed what appeared to be a magical brand and with some tests Nalil was convinced he was under some form of magical compulsion, using her array of spells she managed to removed this mark which caused Vistamix to break down in tears and eventually tell the entire story.

Veras Syndon had placed the mark on Vistamix compelling him to learn of our mission here and anything else that she would find usefull (according to him), Convinced this was somehow related to Perin Nalil and Cate decided to take Vistamix somewhere where he could be safe, Vistamix chimed in that the best place would be where he was studying and that his teacher Rhys should be notified of what has happened.

Nalil and Cate have both aggreed that things are getting more complicated and that they may need help in dealing with Veras and the MVTC, Perhaps it was time for them to make a few connections of their own.....

It had been nearly a week until an elf by the name of Pylia had shown up with news of the family, After a short discussion it was learnt that Guy had hired her to try and kill Perin. A day or 2 later Catelyn and Perin showed up in Beregost and asked to talk to Nalil in private. Nalil led them both into the Beregost Wardens barracks where they could talk in private.

Catelyn described the attempt on Perins life in great detail and Nalil listened on quietly, "theres more news" Cate said, she seemed a little.... conflicted at start but eventually she managed to say "Me and Perin are to be married". Nalil didnt know what to say, she understood now why Guy had issued an attempt on Perins life, he was too stubborn for his own good. Nalil did not like this idea one bit...

A few heated words were said and in the end Nalil told them to leave and not return as Cate's actions were tearing the family apart. Perin was a Criminal in Nalil's eyes.. as a cousin she should be happy for Cate but as a paladin she did not approve of this marrige, not knowing what to do Nalil left for the city of Baldurs Gate to pray at the Temple of Torm for guidance.

Sitting in the Temple later that day Cate approached Nalil again and they talked in length about the situation. Nalil made it clear that she though what Cate was doing was wrong and in no way was helping the family, "this will end in blood" Nalil said with a stern look to her cousin "you know your brother will never stop until Perin is dead... or he himself is slain.... i will have to bury one of them by the end of this" she said shaking her head.

It seems as if the De Morte family was slowly falling apart from within, what was meant to be a simple mission here on the sword coast was turning into the biggest challenges they would ever face, Nalil sat quietly to pray, hoping that Torm would help her to make the right choices, There was no going back.. no taking back all that was done and said.. the only option now was to wait and see and be ready for what comes next....

Justice Returns to the Gate

A ship arrives in the busy harbour of Baulders Gate, a well dressed woman departs the ship and heads towards the Elfsong Tavern. She orders a room and heads up stairs carrying some large bags of equipment and a very large spear that seems to glow faintly.

Nalil starts unpacking her gear and begins the task of equipping her plate armor followed by a flowing royal red cloak, a sword at her side and spear in her hand she heads back downstairs and out in to the streets of Baulders Gate. Leaning on her spear slightly she takes a deep breath and looks around her. The streets stink of corruption, evil and death. Its time to bring order back to this backwards part of the realms. She thinks to herself as she heads outside the gate. But first.. Her thoughts trail off as she looks in to the distance at the large Chapter house of the Radiant Heart heading towards the gates, a purpose in her heart and a weapon in her hand.

Bump in the Night

Night falls on the City of Baulders gate, the sound of drinking and feasting can be heard from many of the taverns as people flock for their evening meals. Spear in hand Nalil wanders past the gates of the city nodding politely to the fist soilders at the door as she heads out to the farmlands. Her spear glows faintly lighting the area around her as she patrols the roads.

A few hours pass uneventful, An occasional adventurer or merchant passes by, you would think that they would travel by the light when its safest she sighs to herself as keeps watch. Two armored gentleman approach her and introduce themselves as members of the Radiant Heart, She smiles and talks with the men, still keeping her eyes on the road and travelers. It is good to know there is still hope for the coast she thinks to herself.

Much is discussed with the Order's Paladins and Nalil can't help but feel that this is a stressful time for them, She learns that many of the members she once knew no longer reside withing the sword coast. A shame really she thinks to herself. It would of been good to see some familiar faces.

The night passes almost without incident, A young woman caused a bit of trouble trying to sell herself for coin to the Gentleman, Luckily Nalil was able to convice her to leave before she got herself thrown in the dungeouns. Perhaps the woman will see the error of her ways and find herself some good honest work. She sighs again or perhaps not she thinks as the woman walks off clearly not taking a hint.

The rest of the night passes without incident and Nalil heads back in to the city to get a few hours sleep before another day dawns. The duty of a Priestess is never done, not when there is so much corruption and evil to be cleansed. She goes back to her room at the Elfsong and slips in to a hot bath before rest.

On Patrol!

Nalil let out a sigh as she struck down yet another bandit along the trade way "You cowards never learn do you?" she said as she drove her spear in to the mans chest. He fell, lifeless on to the ground next to the others. "May the gods Judge you accordingly" she whispers to herself. Wiping the blood from her spear she looks further along the road, The rumors of a Banite in the area bring cause for vigilance much higher than normal.

A roar is heard behind her as the man with his weapon raised is swiped aside by a giant Bears claw. Nalil turns around looking down at the man bleeding out on the floor gently resting her hand on the giant bears head, She smiles at her companion before burying the bodies off to the side Concecrating the area. "this is going to be a long watch" she mutters to the bear who looks at her with apathy. She returns to her Patrol of the area.
