Manah (aka Lilly) was born in the harsh icelands; northwest of Fearun along with her twin sister Lucy. They were by no means rich or powerful; just normal people living a normal life. They grew up in a large house on the outskirts of Icewind Dale, this - by no means - was an easily life as the family struggled agaist hostile creatures daily, but the family were well known by the local drawfs underground respected by the 10 towns where they would often trade fish and supplies.

Image

The father, Urick was a tall strong human man who was renowned for having the strength of 100 lions. He was both feared and loved generally and known for his kind nature to others and his family. The mother, Cara however was both special, and rare - blessed with divine beauty and known for her generious heart; rumors began to surface of Cara's very distant celestial bloodline, although this was never proven Urick did not seem to care and the two fell in love. Over time the two had two beautiful daughters; one being Lucy and the other Lilly who both inherited small traits of their mothers celestrial bloodline, however no one was able to pick up on it, not even Cara knew. While Lilly (Manah) and Lucy were growing up; they took their fathers name Skywood and thus became the Skywood family. The Dad was your typical family man, working everyday for gold which he used for defence and food - while the mother tended to the children Lilly (Manah) and Lucy.

Image

Things were good, for a time - Lilly and Lucy were very energetic and loving children and were very much 'daddies little girls' and would typically go fishing with him by the lake during the warmer months.

...However the peace did not last; one morning - with the sun bright in the sky an army of grey dwarfs marched on the home of the Skywoods killing Cara spilling her blood across the floor - Urick, and his two daughters - who were fishing at this time were also attacked, and as strong as Urick was - he was unable to take them all down.

Image

Urick, Lucy and Lilly (Manah) were dragged into the depths of the underdark where they were introduced to a large group of Drow monks who referred to themselfs as 'The Dark Moon', under the command of a illithid Lucy and Lilly were locked away in the dark while Urick was forced to endure torture for 21 days and nights.

Image

The twin sisters were both still very young, Lilly only around 8, and Lucy around 14. Their cell was full of rats - who - would nipple at their feat every night while they slept; whenever the twins showed any signs of weakness or cried - they were beaten. Eventually, roughly 12 days in the children were given a knife and told to kill all the rats in their cell - this was difficult for Lilly as she had a deep love for all living things and could not bring herself to harm the rats nor could Lucy. However, after threatening the twins with further punishment Lucy protected her sister and told her to look away as she killed the rats for her. Lucy acted as huge moral support and whenever the two felt like crying Lucy would tell Lilly to hold her hand.

Image

Finally 21 days had passed and the two sisters were allowed to see their dad again. The drow took the two to see Urick; who was a beaten bloody pulp barely able to speak or even breathe. The three drow in the room told the sisters Urick sold out his daughters so he could pay off a loan he owed; when Urick was forced to tell them the truth his only reaction was to sob bloody tears - but utter no words. The drow told the sisters he is too ashamed to admit what he had done, and they promised that they no longer be afraid - hugging the sisters, the drow promised to be their new family and promptly gave Lilly a dagger to kill Urick for what he had done.

Image

Lilly was angry, confused, hungry and on the vurge of tears - she did not want to believe it - waiting desperatly for her dad to tell her it was not true, that it was all one big lie - but he did not. She slashed him with the dagger rendering his bloody face half blind then burst into a tearful rage; however the drow did not punish her - but instead embraced her in a hug.

Image

The twin sisters grew up in the underdark working as assassins for the order; gathering slaves and intel from above - this went on for several years, wearing the twins down and with it, any humanity they had left. The drow would often say Lillys name in uncommon which to her sounded like Manah; so in time she began to forget her name and took the new name Manah as her own.

Image

However there was still a spark of good in Manah (Lilly) a spark which was slowly building up inside her, she was not evil - she couldn't keep doing this anymore so she plotted her escape and fled the underdark and ran far into the open fields of the surface. However, Manah was caught and dragged back down and punished; held down in a cell she was branded in common the word 'Traitor' which was carved into her skin with a poisoned dagger then left with no water for 3 days.

Lucy however had become a dark and twisted shell of herself - not a single shred of humanity or goodness left; she began to hate her sister for throwing away the kindness the drow gave them. To Manah Lucy was always the strong one, and without her - she felt weak and alone.

The Drow made one foolish error however, allowing Urick to slowly die and watch his daughters do evil things - to them was a better way to kill him then to outright slit his throat. Though very weak Urick secretly fed on the rats for his source of food and water making him greatly ill, but giving him enough strength to kill the guarding drow and escape - Urick freed Manah allowing her to escape while he took on an entire army of drow by himself - a battle which was short, but long enough for Manah to get away.

Urick was killed and thrown into the pits to rot; however Urick did not face death willingly and requested to go back - this was refused however - so Urick did what he had to and made a deal with the devils allowing him to come back to the world of the living once more. He followed Manah to ensure she was safe and well.

Image

Manah had made her way to a small village where she was found near dead by a human monk called John, she clothed her, fed her and ensured she recovered - which she did. For a time Manah lived with John, unable to let go of her past she was barely able to speak and was terrified of anyone touching her. Manah would often shake nervously if people approched and was barely able to speak. However with time she got a little better and John showed her how to live again - for a time.

Urick was still trying to find Manah, but the Drow had a head start and found her first. They attacked the village and burnt it to the ground, killing everyone in it- John however was able to give Manah his horse Sally and send her off before the drow could catch her. By the time Urick arrived it was too late.

Image

Manah however was long gone, with no real drive or destination she decided to hide in the wild. Over time Sally (her horse) and Manah became good friends - being the only living thing Manah had for company she grew very attached to Sallay and always made sure she had the bigger half of their food and water supply. For a time, things were very good for the both of them; but food was hard to find, as was fresh water - so Manah decided to head towards the sword coast which was far enough way from the drow to be safe and good enough for a new life.

Food and water was low, and Manah did what she could - putting her health at risk to ensure Sally was healthy. It was a long ride and the icy lands soon became muddy marshlands; Manah continued to ride Sally through in search of any place to stay but they were pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

The mud became thicker, and harder to push through and Manah lackd the strength to do it fighting as hard as she could do get through, but the weight of the horse was too much for the mud to support and Sally soon became stuck, slowly begining to sink into it. Manah cried, screamed and shouted trying desperatly to free Sally from the mud - but everytime she tried Sally would just sink down deeper, and deeper. Manah stayed with her horse all day and all night in the cold and the rain hoping, praying that someone - anyone would come; but they never did - no one came.

Image

The horse would soon be swalled whole and Manah did not want her to suffer, doing what she could - the only thing she could do - she took out a dagger and brtually stabbed the creature in the head, many times - until it was still, and silent. Manah stayed at that very spot for days, staring off into the distance like a lost soul; to her this was a nightmare - and she just wanted to wake up from it.

Manah was in a trance and had blocked out all reailty; she was on the vurge of death and had to eat - having lost her only friend, she was now forced to eat it a task that left a permanent dark spot on Manah's spirit. After traveling alone for many days and nights, she eventually arrived in the large city of Baldur's Gate where she slept in the streets for several nights, alive - but mentally and emotionally dead.

One night Manah decided there was nothing left in this world for her anymore and went out in the dead of night to end it all; however a wild elf spotted her and asked Manah if she was OK? Manah just smiled at him, but this Elf was not fooled; a wise man this elf was for he knew the demons that Manah had faced and seen. The Elf took Manah back to the city and showed her the darker side of the city - he told her that
"We all have battles we have to face Manah, and it is easy to think the grass is greener - but the truth is we all have struggles to confront and defeat, true courage can be found even in the darkest of places but when all the lights go out - you are never truely alone, even if you may think it. You Have friends here Manah, you are safe
Manah stayed with the elf for a time - never truely letting go of her darker past; she hid her saddness and terror deep under her smile, maintaining a cheerful and bubbly character but very few see through the guise Manah has put up. Manah does make good friends however, and eventually joins the Phoenix Company aiding Terri as an agent. Things were good, and being so far away from the dark order Manah felt safe - trying hard to start again.

Urick was not far behind Manah, and was doing what he could to ensure she was not under threat - however the drow decided to send out someone more capable....Lucy, her sister - who was faster than Urick and able to find Manah first; for weeks she watched and waited learning who manah knew, their names, race, age etc... before eventually hiring Drow to kidnap Manah under cover of night.

Re: The Story Of Manah - The 'human' Monk

Lucy had finally found Manah, her twin sister - she looked happy here on the sword coast and had found some form of peace; but Lucy's heart was now as black as the dark side of the moon from all the things she was made to do, the people she was forced to kill and all the damage she had done - her mind was also twisted and warped by evil magic. She was told to come here and get Manah back before Urick could find her first - The drow was her only family now, the only people who would protect her, keep her clothed, fed, healthy and offer her shelter - no one would dare trust her again after knowing who - what she was, a servent of the drow and knowing this Lucy felt very alone, she felt trapped between a wall being forced to go forward, but never back.

Image

That evening Lucy confronted Manah - the two wearing the same head band, the same ribbon and the same dark black hair; it was almost impossible to tell who-was-who, if not for Lucy's patchy old robes. The sisters stood face-to-face Manah knew why she was here... yet could not bring herself to attack her own kin, and despite what Lucy had done - she could not either. In Lucy's mind Manah would never be accepted here - if the people knew who she was they would all turn on her, despite what little humanity was left in her she still cared for her sister. The two sat down far out in the woodland away from anyone else and spoke by a crackling campfire, Manah and Lucy - having spent all their lives underground still knew never little about how things worked up here, so Manah gave her sister a book of lore which she read through briefly but Lucy was angry at her sister and threw the book across the campfire.

"Do you have any idea the trouble you have got yourself into!?" she shouted, her face glowing red like a beat root. "By running away you put yourself at great risk... If I was not sent to bring you back, you would probably have been killed by the Assassins"

Manah just looked down at the mud "...Then I guess we are both disappointed with each other then"

Lucy kicked the fire hard, throwing up ash and crackling bits of wood into the air, causing it to dance and hiss in the dark "Damn it Lilly! We are not normal people! You think you were safe here? We have no place here; they will ALWAYS hunt us, don't you get it?"

"...You don't have to go back, you can stay here and--"

"Lilly, shut up! Just...shut up! You just don't get it, we will never, EVER be free - you are just lucky I found you and not them. I have convinced the order to keep you alive - you are lucky they accepted" Lucy's voice began to quieten down as she turned away from the campfire and stared off ahead into the darkness of the woodland night. Listening to the sound of nature around her.

"...It wasn't your fault sis"

Lucy turned around at lightning speed to face Manah, her face tightening up once more "What?"

"About Dad...he"

"He SOLD US! Lilly, he sold us for gold! He is not our father, he NEVER will be..." Lucy sat back down taking a moment to calm herself causing the night to once again fall still and silent, with only the roaring sounds of the fire to fill it.

"...Tomorrow the drow agents will collect you Lilly, do not try to go back to your friends or they will be harmed, I suggest you stay here - we will be safe with them"

Manah felt betrayed - Terri, Xela, Ventrue...all her friends she had made here - she felt she could find a new home here, a new start. The news of her mothers death, and her fathers betryal hit her hard - but Lucy was always there for her - during those nights in the dark rocky underdark tunnels Lucy always used to lie, so she would take more of the beatings; she was always the source of strength for her - and the only person she still could love, but hearing this from her own sister, it hit her hard.

Manah stood up sharply and walked over to Lucy who also stood to face her. "Everyone... I ever loved or cared for as either died or left, everyone expect YOU! So don't you dare tell me I would be safe with them, because I would only just be more scared" Manah pushed her sister hard causing her to lose balance before storming off into the woodlands

"Lilly..."
"...I'll go, just promise me - no one else will get hurt? Promise me!"
Lucy nodded offering no words, watching Manah fade into the darkness.

The following night Urick approched the city of Bauder's Gate, where a half Orc female was waiting for him in the palice district. He was tired, worn down and very weak. He went into the Inn called 'The Helm & Cloak' to meet the female Orc, Riol - who, suppringly was very sharp and intelligent for an orc. The two sat down, but Urick had no time for pleasent chat, he had to get to his daughters before the drow did, Riol however could see how tense he was and tried to calm him down - reminding him of the time Urick was invited into their tribe as a bear warrior; found almost dead outside their village - a lie - for Urick had only came back through a pact with a devil, a pact which was slowly draining away his soul - what was left of it.

Riol told Urick that Lilly was here, as was Lucy, but Lilly had renamed herself to Manah and Lucy was trying to capture her. Riol also told him it was too late, as rumors on the street say that Manah was already taken and is being held by the drow in a secure location.

Urick could barely lift his own axe anymore, nor could he walk - but he could not stop now; he had to keep going, he had to find them. Urick told Riol he was going to the Durlogs Tower, alone to storm the underdark and bring her back. Riol begged him not to go, but he refused and left urging Riol to also leave and go home; but Riol was kind and loyal refusing Uricks request she told him she was staying to help, despite the danger she was in.

Re: The Story Of Manah - The 'human' Monk

Lucy waited outside the Friendly Arms Inn, wearing a hood to blend into the crowd - she was given orders to return via a secret portal the mages would open for her under the Cloakwood mines, a special and very potent poison she would have to drink to open the portal - with a mild risk of death - she was told this was the only way to ensure her saftey as well as theirs, for if someone else got hold of this potion they would not have the resistance she had and would most definatly die.

She was given orders to kill Riol and Urick before she returns, and had one week to do so. Lucy learned that the Orc, Riol was staying in the cloak and helm and planned her assassination knowing what room she was staying in she snuck in during the night breaking into her room.

Image

But the Orc was awake, and expecting Lucy calmly waiting for her by the window - not something Lucy had in mind, or even anticipated. Lucy told her she was going to die and Riol accepted - showing no fear; telling Lucy she had something to tell her before being killed. Lucy - being a humble assassin agreed.

"I saw your father today..."
"He is NOT my father!"
"Why not Lucy? He misses you"
"My father, is a cowed and a liar - he sold us and soon, I will end his miserable life"
"That is not true Lucy, your father loves you - so much so that he is willing to go to the ends of the earth to save you - both of you"
"Shut up!" She shouted out throwing her a small blade "Defend yourself, Orc"
"Your father was tortured for weeks Lucy, but not once did he break - his love for you was so strong, even if he does not express it" Lucy kicked the Orc hard, causing her to fall down to the ground with a thud damaging the wooden floor, but Riol, though bleeding slightly did not get up to defend herself and instead lay there, Lucy lurking over her from above.
"Because the drow could not get him to admit it to you, they burnt out his throat - and made it seem like he did, you can kill me Lucy - but please - do not blame your dad"
"Your a liar, he sold us" Lucy calmly told the orc
"Did he Lucy? All I see, is the love of a father - who never gave up on you, even now--"

In that moment, Lucy could hear the guards outside the room - banging firmly on the door; Riol remained silent, as did Lucy who showed little emotion and seemed conflicted
"Open up!" the guards shouted, banging harder on the door. Lucy made a quick escape - moving swiftly through the open window and out into the darkness of the night.

She hid behind the Inn leaning firmly on the wall and began to slide down it until she was crouched up in a ball on the floor.

Image

A strange, wet liquid began to stream from her eyes; causing great confusion for Lucy - she had forgotten what it was, feeling great dread and guilt but did not understand why. Deep down she knew Riol was telling the truth but did not want to believe it, she couldn't - fearing what it would mean for her if she did. She had only 6 days left to kill Urick and Riol before the portal would open and for her to return back to the underdark; but Lucy felt so lost and unsure - having spent all this time here and seeing people so free and full of life it was, to her like finding out your entire life was a lie, and being emotionally and mentally tortured daily she did not know how to feel anymore.

The drow, however planned this and had put a powerful mind spell on Lucy which began to torture her further, as a monk Lucy was able to strug it off long enough to try and put things right - she contacted Terri of the Phoenix company and wrote her a letter fighting agaist the effects of the control, fearful the drow forced her to injest a large vial of potent poison - which Lucy was able to fight agaist long enough to meet with Terri.

She went to the camp, slowly losing her life force but held out long enough to give them her order report, and the poison needed to get into the domain where Manah was held - she told them to go to the helm and cloak and seek out Riol before she died.

But the team did not want her to die, instead doing all they could to bring her back and dispelling the powerful magic the drow had over her. Lucy was taken to the temple in the city where she slowly recovered.

While Lucy recovered at the temple; Phoenix Company tried hard to find any clue to where Manah was being held, from Lucy they learned that the portal they planned to use to get Lucy back was both dangerous and risky, while they went to find Urick - who was searching for a drow scroll Riol contacted Grey Bear, one of her agents to gather any information he can get about the Dark Order of monks.

Time was running out - forced to wait one week, it was only a matter of time before Manah was shipped off the coast. Fortunatly Riol had found out where the temple was hidden - which was most likely where Manah was; a twisted place where prisoners are held and put through extreme mental torture - something Manah was already famillar with. Terri got everyone together, as requested by Riol - who promised she would send some intel their way; which eventually lead them to the dark, evil temple guarded heavily. Pushing through the forces they eventually fight their way to the prison chamber where Manah and many other prisoners were held as well - unfortunatly for them, it was too late.

Manah was blindfolded and in a state of shock, the monks had been using illusions of her friends to make her think they were evil; a treatment she was forced to endure all day and all night for weeks on end - but when her friends did arrive Manah was too confused to tell the difference between reailty and illusion.Terri tried hard to tell Manah that she was real, all of them were - but Manah was still very unsure knowing how far the mental torture went. she rejected them all as illusions. It took some time for Manah to finally realize that they were real, when Liam reached out to touch her she realized that contact was something they could never mimic - however Manah was weak having fought the mental bullying in her own mind for so long she finally callapsed in a heap on the floor.

Liam carried her out of the temple which caused her to smile - telling him that she knew he wasn't 'all bad, and saw the good in him, even if he didn't himself' she was left in the care of the temple for several days. Urick, Riol, and Lucy all caught word of what was done and went to visit her in the temple. For Manah, no matter how stupid or naive she portrayed herself - she always had an inner wisdom that was always brushed away; for so long she was the strong one, the fighter, the spirit of the team - but really she was a terrified little girl whose only source of comfort was a lie she forced herself to believe - that everything was all fine, when it really wasn't.

Manah always looked upto Lucy, her sister - she was always the strong one, always right infront of her - protecting her, but she was only human and Manah began to see how damaged she really was. Everyone was damaged, Lilly, Lucy and Urick - but Manah realized how strong this journey had made her, inside and out. Urick sat down with his two daughters for the first time in what felt like an age - he his time was now up, and the devil demanded his soul as was the deal of the pact. Manah was no fool, no matter what she may say to convince people otherwise - she knew Urick was not telling them the full truth; and Urick was forced to say his goodbyes he reassured them it was his choice and now that his daughters were safe he could die in peace.

Urick told Lilly and Lucy how special they really are - that they carry the bloodline of a Deva; and they should never undervalue themselfs, leaving them alone - for Urick did not want his daughters to see him die, his soul was damned but he could go - knowing - he did something right; he felt no fear or hate - only peace. Riol took Lucy under her wing, as part of her tribe, but Manah did not wish to go - telling Riol that she is still needed here on the Sword Coast and her task here still needs finishing. Riol understood, but was also sad at this responce. Lucy and Lilly said their goodbyes; and she promised to visit once a year.

But Riol did not want to risk this again so she asked Grey Bear; one of her strongest warriors to watch over and protect Manah from afar - for if she would be caught again - Grey Bear would not be far behind, and true to his word the half orc known as Grey Bear did watch over Manah - and no drow dare approch her with him around. Though Grey Bear was respectful of Manah, and her privacy; staying out of her way, staying forever watchful - as was his promise.

Manah was finally free, having all ties with the underdark offically severed she settled on the sword coast - free from danger and harm where she began to live a normal life, promising herself - never again to allow herself to become the evil person she once was. Though from time to time she would aid Terri on her missions in the underdark, to her - it was all new having only known the underdark in distant lands she felt at peace and the experience, although famillar was new to her and because of this - and the friends she had made - she had no fear.
