Underdark Stuff

Unread post by Moridin »

I'm building a list of Underdark Suggestions and bugs. If I miss any big bugs or you have a good suggestion that is not a new area, post it below.

Bugs
These are bugs that either stop play or break immersion in the game.

1. When moving from the Illithid Mines to the Deep Illithid Mines, you come out at the Entrance to the Illithid Hive, in the Deep Mines, instead of the proper cave entrance, when you go the other way, from the proper cave entrance, you end up in the Illithid Mines at the cave you started at. The cave for the Illithid Hive is on the opposite end of the map from the right cave.

2. Underdark characters randomly like to swim in the river in West of Varallas. This happens at every bridge, the MiddleWest and South are the most frequent.

3. The Yath'abban at the temple of Lolth stops treating you as her better once you first agree to have Lolth test you with the Drider quest. All character replies after that are subservient for Yathrin and Yath'tallar. Also as noted in another thread, Gel'dala is far too peaceful as she has the generic good priest conversation.

4. There are GIGANTIC TREES sitting in the Northern Spore Grove(the one with the boat that goes to Oghrann's Ruins) Please remove these, trees that can be walked through that you can see Elves possibly building homes on, should not belong in the Underdark. :D This is also the map with the most bugged spawns that I remember from anywhere so far. The Myconid spores will walk up to you black quite frequently, and sometimes they will just bump you around constantly, or deal devastating damage(quite rare, though Lomith died from it once at level 15ish). Note: A tree is also in the Illithid Hive as well as some being in the Netherese Ruins.

5. The back rooms of the Seventh Circle can be accidentally entered by random players that are exploring, once they enter, they cannot get out unless they fight for half an hour trying to glitch through a wall.

6. In Oghrann's Great Hall, The Kanahraun can shoot through the left wall at the entrance. Outside in the Ruins, the Zombie Dwarves cannot be detected with a detect undead spell active. Turn Undead also does not actually turn them at all.

7. In Varallas Passage in the bottom left side of the map, there is a bunch of duplicate npcs sitting around in an inaccessible tunnel. I think this still might be from the Illithilich, but I'm not sure.

8. West of Varallas and Varallas have many missing corners on turns. This is nitpicking but there are so many that I had to add this. There is a double door in the Goblin Lake Compound Lower Level, going out of the Leader's cave. The Fountain of Endless Elixirs in South Sshamath has a chair in the counter.

9. Recheck Glouras Wings, every wall has MISSING TEXTURE written across it, yet is not rainbow coloured. It would be good should someone could find the reason for this.

10. In the Stonestave, there is an NPC on a pedestal named "Statue of the Nameless Mage" That can turn and makes noise when talking to it is attempted. It should not move or be able to make noise.

11. A texture bug seems to exist in the Lower Crypt in the Underdark. Here is a thread concerning it:
http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=46600

Suggestions
1. Add a merchant that buys and sells items in the Illithid Hive, namely the Gith that stares at the one that sells things to you.
2. Add more spawns to the Wilds, they are really really empty with fights few and far between. Have the entrance as a safe zone(just no spawns) so the non-epics can still finish the Drider quest.
3. Have Jozez'voc(sp?) the gem merchant in Sshamath buy and sell gems, with a cap of ~1400-1500. Nothing good though of course. :p He doesn't seem to do much currently.
4. Add an epic level quest dealing with the Illithid Hive(so that people actually bother going into the hive itself, currently its like pulling teeth to get people into there), and slightly modify the area to fit it, ex: steal a formula from the lab that grants gold and small amounts of xp.

Hi,

6 months ago 6 large files for underdark areas were submitted. Could we have an update? Or if the cubicle is not able to work on them, this is to let the builders know, if their is an UD builder, that Luna has access to large UD areas. Some of them were made with the BG haks. I believe one of them includes a beautiful UD city just east of Ssahamath that is Lothian.

If cublicle is too busy to work on this is there someone else who can pick it up? No foul on Cubicle, people get busy with real life, but someone might be able to make progress with these areas.

As far as I am informed, Luna and the others who can actually put stuff live, are overworked. Last I heard, there were 10 month old updates in the queue, waiting to be implemented.

I'm still not sure why more people can't put stuff live on the server.

Hmmm Cubicle did mention it would take a while, just didn't mention how long.

the staff are all volunteers keep that in mind, and then when you get to the end of the year and all the holidays come around of course things are gonna get delayed

but that aside as far as people who have access to update the server, you really dont want a lot of people doing it since sometimes after updates something goes wrong and the update has to be undone, much easier to figure out what the problem is when everything has to be filtered through a small number of people who then know what went in and when - and the less amount of people the less time zone becomes an issue

but dont feel too bad, somethings have taken a year to go in or longer

None of this has yet been implemented as far as I know, and it's more than half a year ago, and there's much more in the pipeline. Anything that gets created today will likely not be implemented for another year due to things in the pipeline.

Yet new armor models seem to be added almost weekly. With so many things in the pipeline, I at least am left completely baffled as to why one or two of those things are not included with the armor models as well since the server files need to be compiled anyway.

depends on who is doing the work, i know d47 usually does appearance stuff, but there are also things non staff people do and submit to be added, then all thats needed is someone to look over it and approve it

also somethings are simply faster than others

The Varalla's duplicates are left overs from when Grom the gemcutter (now in the middle of bazaar) had a small encampment near the exit to West of Varallas.
It was a good place to buy healing swiftly and meet partners in exploring back in the day.

The duplicate corner was probably made with a mind to some scheme that never happened in restoring Varallas after the Alhoon war collapse.
In essence the "encampment" has been moved a few yards and sealed off from where it was originally.

Might be hard to see, but the missing textures text on the wall is there.

Come to think of it, this has been there forever I think even before the big UD update that added the skulls, the messengers, improved Misty Lake, the Vhaar Latrema, the portals and the stonestave.

so 6 large UD areas have been created 9 months ago and they still arent live?

Tfunke left last summer because his areas are not getting added?
To me that sounds like a serious problem in the QA & update process.

I am sure if someone is overworked that the work can be split between some people.

Which 6 areas are those?

This week, some UD areas were asked to be completed. We do not have many area builders who do every step that is needed though. Area builders seem to like to build wonderful areas but are not as fond of the scripting parts and monsters... which is where some areas have paused in the progress.

We have had things stalling yes but as you can see from updates, we are catching up bit by bit. Please continue to be patient with this, builders and eager players alike! :)
