Background:
Niyressa was born in the city of Neverwinter to Robert and Marjorie Dawncrow. Her father was a lower noble who has been granted his title from Lord Nasher after a heroic deed, common story in the city of Neverwinter where adventurers are still celebrated as were the founders of the city. The name Dawncrow was given to Robert with his title, in his earlier adventuring days he and his company The Crows have saved baroness of Conyberry while she was traveling towards the City of Neverwinter. Due to the baroness’ well-known fortune a group of brigands and bandits attacked her escort at dawn. Robert and the Crows happened to be returning from Conyberry as well after a tenday of enjoying the city’s frivolous entertainments. When the bandits attacked and outnumbered the convoy, Robert used a long-treasured artifact, he has once obtained during his ventures. A dagger, with a socketed Blue Diamond that through Gem magic has been imbued with a “Stonehold” spell, became their savior as a heavy fog settled on the area and encompassed all their adversaries in heavy stone, making them an easy target. Marjorie was on the other hand a simple city girl born to a merchant family, she was sweet and cheerful, smart and very interested in the city but otherwise not special from many other women in Neverwinter, she was interesting to Robert though and he made her fall for his worldly charms and adventuring stories.

While her father always loved Niyressa unconditionally, her mother changed ever since the little tiefling was born. She was no longer the warm and happy woman, her love for Robert was obscured by the blame she was giving her husband for the “unclean” child that was bestowed upon them, surely due to his unknown ancestry. And while her love for Robert only diminished, Marjorie has always outright hated her own child. Niyressa ended up neglected and later beaten and hated by her own mother and while her father loved and truly cared for her, he also never could stand up to his wife for his kind heart.

The situation was very bitter-sweet and strenuous on the whole family, so when Niyressa reached 9 years, Robert has used his limited influence to get the young tiefling admitted into Cloaktower where she studied the arcane and could live for the time being. Niyressa very much enjoyed her years in Cloaktower. She found love for the arcane and found her way to the teachings of Sharess to make the best of the life she had. She also created a strong bond with one of the teachers, Rebecca Brightlance, who ignited a love for transmutations in the girl. When Niyressa reached 18 years and was to finish her apprenticeship, Rebecca took the girl under her own wing so to say and let her continue study and work for the organization under her personal tutelage. The next four years Niyressa spent dutifully learning all the secrets of transmutations from her Mistress and she took on learning in many different skills wanting to please her mentor as her perfect protégé. She learned the basics of diplomacy, so she could escort her mistress to Lord Nasher’s court as her assistant. She learned the ways of combat and became an Eldritch Knight, so she could fight to protect the city in time of need, and she learned the subtle art of subterfuge and infiltration, becoming an Arcane Trickster, so she could prove helpful in curbing nefarious agents of Illuskan and other elements who wanted to bring fall to the city.

Niyressa was happy, she had the love of her mentor and her father, she had been exploring the pleasures of life as Sharessian and had the chance to do important work to protect her city. But that changed when she neared her twenty third year. At that time a string of murders started plaguing the city. It wasn’t a big event because, the victims were only those of extraplanar blood, but it was a horrific event none the less, as the bodies found were always mutilated, cut up and altered to look human. Their inhuman features were usually cut out or burned out and replaced by human parts, there were signs of healer’s practices as well as holy ceremonies, but one thing became clear, whoever did this was trying to “cleanse” the bodies of their planar taint. As it was discovered later this was an act of a newly forming cult of fallen paladins, misguided priests and fearful people. But more importantly it was discovered that the group was being supported by small few of people with coin and even nobility amongst which was Marjorie Dawncrow, Niyressa’s mother.

Marjorie was always using part of the family’s coin for charitable expenditures which her husband wholeheartedly approved of. However, in the last year she used those to hide her support for the cult. She even took part in most of their actions and ceremonies. When the despicable group’s hideout was discovered a strike was organized using all parts of city’s forces including Cloaktower. Niyressa by then knew of her mother’s involvement, as did her father, and she managed to squeeze herself into the assault group. Her father however, still with love for his wife, wanted to save Marjorie on his own because he believed she had been misled and forced into the cult's actions. He left before the city’s forces to try and lead his wife into safety and get her out of the influence of the cult, however he didn’t manage to persuade her and in the time he spent trying to, the asault force invaded the hideout. Robert died that day caught in the chaos between the warring groups. Niyressa’s mother however survived and was dragged out in cuffs by the grieving tiefling. Marjorie along with the surviving members of the cult has been put on trial and executed. As is common in Neverwinter, nobles are expected to be servants and protectors of the city-state and as such the Dawncrow family lost all its holdings and influence to pay reparations and Niyressa lost her family, it’s status and means in one fell swoop. She left the city a few days after, leaving only a short letter for her mentor, Rebecca Brightlance.

The young and pained tiefling spent her next two years traversing the coast. She was hurting and damaged but used her faith as a “shield” becoming a true pleasure seeker…maybe a bit too much. Her life turned from commendable and driven into one never ending party. Going from place to place, always spending only a few months to revel in the pleasures that locals could offer. She has visited Silverymoon and Waterdeep. In Waterdeep encroached on a big and exciting expedition into Undermountain where she ended up captured for three months before she managed to escape. She then continued by ship to Calimshan, ventured north from there into Athkatla and eventually found her way to Baldur’s Gate.
-
Goals:
Niyressa’s goals when entering Baldur’s Gate were nonexistent, she never planned on spending more time in the city and its environs. However that changed, her goal becoming to make Baldur’s Gate her new home, to protect her home and to keep it a place where she can practice magic freely, pursue her research and enjoy the thriving trade and travel which brings in different cultures and pleasures she can enjoy.
She would one day like to create in and for Baldur's Gate an organization similar to Cloaktower and it's Many-starred Cloaks from Neverwinter, for that she first needs to make a name for herself and overcome the prejudice people have against tieflings, insert herself into the city's politics and make powerful allies.
Her last goal is to research an ancient Netheril transmutation spell “Ioulaum’s Longevity”, the epitome of transmutation school, as it ties together time manipulation and matter to energy conversion within a field. (As per previous DM team discussion, this is meant to be continual RP for Niy and possibly others, but any sort of conclusion can only happen after character's retirement as she is not able to create Epic Spell for OOC reasons)
-

Possible plot hook ideas and misc. facts:
-Cloaktower and her mentor would always hold power over Niyressa’s life should they ever resurface somehow.
-The drow house and other elements from Undermountain could be looking for, or find out about, their escaped slave, she could only run away by making herself useful enough to not be sacrificed or locked up forever and earn some leniency. (if anyone would want to pursue RP around this, drop me a PM and we can figure out specifics - which house etc.)
-Almost anything that provides a unique experience or reward will attract the tiefling like a bait, even if the task is dangerous above measure, her hunger to experience things will take over wisdom and caution.

After Rebirth

Current affiliation: Bladestone Foundation - Head Magus
Current lodging: Warrior's Rest
Spouse: Lylan'Synor Syr'Asiryn

Profile

Full name: Niyressa Dawncrow
Age: 30 (2024) apparent age is more dubious, somewhere in her 20s or 30s
Race: Feytouched human, part Sirine
Sex: Female
Date of birth: 6th of Chess 1330 DR
Place of birth: Neverwinter
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Patron deity: Sharess and Mystra
Profession: Mage, Diplomat, Warrior, Infiltrator
Classes: Wizard / Rogue / Arcane Trickster / Eldritch Knight - Studied in Cloaktower and worked for 4 years directly under one of the senior members on arcane research while helping protect the city as she could, training with guard at times and serving at Nasher's court in assistant/second position.
Primary language: Common / Illuskan

Secondary languages:
- Arcane/Draconic: As fluent as one can get on study alone and with spellcasting without "living the life of", she sees language as big part of magic as it represents mages will for every spell, so naturally deep knowledge is a must for her.
- Cant: Learned through her work and pleasure seeking. Had various dealings with shadier elements while looking for information, finding drugs and certain luxuries to try, or working with groups where subterfuge was a key. Mostly specific to signs and strategies of each group she worked with.
- Elven, Dwarf, Gnome, Hin: Fully fluent, but mostly around high speak used in court rooms, slang and more relaxed speech will likely escape her. Knowledge necessary for her diplomatic work, to show respect and help put the other party more at ease.
- Sylvan: Somewhat fluent and improving. Fey matters were always of interest to Niyressa, but since her metamorphosis this quickly became an internalized need.
- Netherese: Can read, might be able to put together a few rigid sentences. Mostly serves as tool to help with her spell research, towards the goal of one day creating a spell similar to Ioulaum's Longevity.
- Undercommon: Semi-fluent, learned as necessity during her capture in Undermountain, mostly low speak of the underdark's slaves, slavers and similar elements. She makes sure to practice in times, in case it's ever needed again...or help her avoid similar fate.
- Thayan: Very fluent in reading, speech is more rough-edged. Learned through her various contacts and reference books. Niyressa sees Red Wizards of Thay as the ultimate enemy of magic and magic users but can't deny their profficiency with spellcraft, so be it to interpret messages or read research, she sees it as must to know.

Physical description:

Height: 165cm/65inch
Weight: 65kg/10stones – combination of muscles and full curves
Eyes: Sky blue
Hair: crimson/shoulder length
General Health: She is in peak physical condition, takes impeccable care of herself and her body
Tattoos: Niyressa has two distinctive tattoos, those are made not of only ink, but enchanted precious metals and bear arcane runes to enhance her abilities. First is a golden crow surrounded by silver stars adorning her right temple, with each star being a magical rune. Second, a golden elf figurine with emerald eyes, armed by a rapier and showing a pair of purple gossamer wings, posing on the girl's left scapula.
Items of Note: Amulet with iconography of Sharess on one chain and golden ring with emerald chips and iconography of Hanali Celanil on another. For years now she has had an icy blade, a sword/falchion of elven make she calls Hoarfrost. She is often seen carrying and drinking from a small crystal flask containing a colorful liquid, being a gift from her mentor.

Psychological description:
Niyressa is mage first and foremost, but she is proud to and relishes in being able to fulfill lot of different roles and take on different works. She is the one creating opportunities, the one filling in for weaknesses, the one planning for the things others don't and all that requires berth of knowledge over wide range of subjects as well as skills and people's nature, if not deep expertise. It's her pleasure to be useful and helpful...but it's also her pleasure to get drunk in a hot bath with tray of yummies, and she often plays a "devil's advocate", as to her considering and exposing people to all possible angles is both practical and fun. Niyressa is perhaps a strange mage to some, a spellblade with the plush body of hedonist, but a master transmuter focusing on martial combat, however to her it all makes perfect sense. After all, her love, transmutations, is about subverting expectations and bending the world to your will. However she is also a very traditional mage, in her following of Mystran Dogma, love for structures and mage circles and insistence to pour over books throughout the night by the flickering of candle. She cares about people’s freedom and to make the place where she lives a safe environs to practice magic as well as to enjoy whatever pleasures she finds exciting which means no tyranny, no slavery, but also no excessive laws especially those rooted in puritanism or blocking trade and cultural exchange. Niyressa is someone who can and will fight, mostly in defense rather than hunting people down. But she is also someone who prefers to avoid fighting, trying to mediate or avoid conflict where she can.

Flaws:
- She can be too accepting and giving too many chances. Through her own past suffering at the judgemental end of masses, she has developed the idea that everyone can be good and everyone should be saved, including drows, orcs and the like, this has in past hurt her and others, but she is unlikely to stop trying.
- Niyressa can be arrogant at times, as she will say a certain amount of ego is needed for mages as you have to be sure in your wish to exert your will upon the world and having doubts can lead to catastrophic mistakes, you don't wont a mage throwing a fireball flinching while they are taking the aim. But this can also show in her self-assuredness, she is hard to admit a flaw in her knowledge or thinking unless indisputable proof is in front of her. She will fight for and champion what she believes is true until she can't.

Habits/Hobbies: Most of the time she spends either on her research or looking for interesting experiences ranging from mind wrapping conversations to an epic adventure into unknown and mind-boggling places, in between would be her taste for luxurious wines, foods, clothing and anything that can make her life comfortable and her senses sing praises. Recently she has picked up in her prank making and teasing, as well as some music, nothing that should ever be presented in front of people, but she likes to write simple songs for herself and strum very simple tunes on her lute, mostly in private.

Religious views:
Niyressa sees religion more as following and internalizing the ideologies and giving respect for such wisdom, than cult of personality which holds the gods on pedestals and begs them for help.
- Sharess: Represents her general outlook, celebrating life, freedom, boldness and that doing good should be pleasurable. Her understanding has in time turned from escapist pure hedonism, into more tempered outlook on life about community, advocating for good and freedom and a life balance between self care and duty.
- Mystra: Represents her love and respect for magic, her thirst for knowledge and understanding the world. To her Weave is an integral part of the world, a lens through which everything can be understood as world and life is Weave. She respects magic because she loves it deeply as source of wonder, beauty and safety. Which means she respects Mystra as she impersonates Weave and magic and while she enjoys casting magic and does so when she can, she also upholds the idea that mages should try and do as much as they can via mundane means, if for nothing else, then because doing everything only with magic limit's one's options and creates dependency which can be dangerous.

Ancestor: Her Sirine ancestry comes from a ritual of rebirth performed by a dragon and circle of fey, rather than from birth.

Biography

Family
Born into a lower noble family of Neverwinter, to parents Robert and Marjorie Dawncrow. Marjorie was a daughter of somewhat successful fabrics trader, while Robert was an adventurer, later in life granted a title and a town house for his deeds. Both are deceased now and Niyressa has no other known relatives. But due to her upbringing and circumstance of birth, her mentor and senior Cloktower member, Rebecca Brightlance, was her main maternal figure.

History

Before Baldur's Gate
Niyressa was born in the city of Neverwinter to Robert and Marjorie Dawncrow. She then continued by ship to Calimshan, ventured north from there into Athkatla and eventually found her way to Baldur’s Gate.

Rebirth
It has been few years now that Niyressa spent on the Sword Coast. She has served multiple lords and ladies, captains, even been Duke Eltan's advisor, she has tasted success and rejection (often with the same people). She has been part of many battles, parties, crazy and weird occurences. Known love, heartbreak, friendship and betrayl, honestly it's too many stories to tell. However there came a moment that made her doubt her place on the Coast, if there are any new experiences to have and opportunities to learn and to grow. After just being reject at the court she swore allegiance to, after her latest place of employ crumbled and her lover died in a damned bar brawl. She was all set to leave for Neverwinter, to settle down, maybe try for a spot at Cloaktower again with her old mentor... But before she did, there was one last thing she wanted to help an old friend with. Derik a person she has known almost ever since arriving, who has helped her find a place to belong to many times, has invited her and couple others for a quaint dinner party...or tea and cakes anyways. However as is all too common here on the Coast, the party was interrupted by, as you might guess...bunch of cultists and a fight. This all started a very long and complex string of events, containing dragons, more cultists, bunch of half-naked frolicking fey, false prophecies and a milking tree...or at least a tree has been milked. And by the end of it, when the heroes saved the day, Niyressa has been offered a chance at a new and different life. By the grace of a dragon and his considerable fey following, she has been given an option, to rid herself of her demonic "taint" and be reborn as fey...or close to one anyways. Niyressa was always proud of who she was, because it marked what she endured and survived and thrived despite. But maybe it was the dancing ethereal women, or the effect of Feywild, or maybe she was just pretty unhappy in face of all her late failings and rejections...maybe she simply craved a new fundamental experience. In the end she decided to take it and undergo the ritual. Afterwards, still set on leaving the Coast she said the little goodbyes she had left and departed.... what followed were months of trying to cope with and understand her new self. Everything was different, she had notions and little tugs in her brain over fundamentaly boring and mundane things. Her head was filled with little whispers and crazy ideas (though addmitedly probably from just herself) she had struggled with her magic, the one thing she could always depend on. So she set off to train, to learn to change...but eventually there's only so much you can learn about fey and fey magic from people at a dusty library, only so much you can learn from the safety of high walls. So it came to be that Niyressa decided to travel again and where else to start than Baldur's Gate...yet again. If there's one place she knows of people who dealt with and even sometimes understand Fey, it's there, among her old friends. And gods know it will not be boring or safe.

Future
Niyressa's goal when returning is clear, to find a way to learn to control her new powers and to understand her new self. Being much less oriented around the city that has rejected her time and time again even after all her work, attempts and some success, she will find a new place to belong to, however much temporarily it remains to be seen. Right now it seems to center around her friends in Bladestone and around her wife Lylan and Doron Amar.
She would one day like to have a hand in leading young mages down the proper path of arcane arts, as she once was. Help shape people's mind to accept magic itself for all it's wonders and the good it can do, foster love for magic where she can. Maybe she will never lead a mage guild or become someone of influence but wherever she can help magic flourish as a force for good and spark passion for it, she will try.

Heirloom item
The only thing that could be considered her heirloom, is a bottomless, crystal flask, granted to her as gift by her mentor, Rebecca. It contains a colorful liquid which is about as alcoholic as whiskey or rum, but it's enchanted Sharessian booze, which smells and tastes as either something a person drinking it loves or as something entirely new to them. However imbibing it too much makes one loose taste for 24 hours so it is only to be used in ceremony or sparingly. (self created as RP item from Dwarven Dream through description rewrite)

Plot hooks
- Cloaktower and her mentor would always hold power over Niyressa’s life should they ever resurface somehow.
- The drow house and other elements from Undermountain/Underdark could be looking for, or find out about, their escaped slave, she could only run away by making herself useful enough to not be sacrificed or locked up forever and earn some leniency. (if anyone would want to pursue RP around this, drop me a PM and we can figure out specifics - which house etc.)
- Almost anything that provides a unique experience, sensation, magic or trinket will attract the woman like a bait, even if the task is dangerous above measure, her hunger to experience things will take over wisdom and caution.
- Niyressa is, and will likely for years or decades be, working on a spell similar to Ioulaum's Longevity. She sees it as the pinnacle of finer and trickier elements of transmutations, including area field of disintegration, matter to energy transformation and transfer of time. So anything that can further her research on Netheril or Transmutations is a big draw.
