Background:
Esana's mother was the beautifull daughter of a minor noble in Tethyr who caught the eye of one of the more influent Sheriff. A man who hid his darkness well, he convinced her parents to marry their daughter to him, he was of a much higher noble status despite also working as a "mere" Sheriff. He was also a secret member of the Zhentarim.

He made sure she was isolated in his most private manor, with only a skeleton staff, except when he needed her at court. He wanted her, not because she was beautiful, thought she was, but because she was an aasimar. He was an Aasimar of Baal and had the blood red hair of his lineage. He wanted a son of great strenght to take the throne with him and bring back the tyranny that had been before the country devolved into chaos.

While she was pregnant, her kindness and sad situation got her the pitty and later on the loyalty of the midwife and the futur wet nurse. The same night both woman came into the pain of child delivery so the Lady insisted that the wet nurse be attended to as well, as she didn't want to lose the woman. It was granted since a strong wet nurse was needed to care for the son he hoped. Saddly, since the Lady was still the priority, the daughter of the wet nurse was still born, while the daughter of the House was vigourous and strong. Not wanting a daughter raised in that house, the mothers agreed to exchange the babies, better the daughter of a commonner then a tyran. Under the rage of the Lord, both for the fact his child was still born as well as a daughter, took his anger on the midwife and then left. Bloody and beaten an inch of her life, the midwife was unable to care for the two woman, and the Lady bled out. At that news, on his return the next evening, it was too late to stop the nurse from leaving since she left as soon as the lady expired.

The nurse took up washing for slightly less poor woman in Zazesspur. Esana grew up helping the woman she thought her mother. But it never was enough. Not many people wanted to associate with a mother who wouldn't say who the father was and had come from outside of the city. They were always bullied and the pressure ended up being too much for her mother. While they were walking toward the market to get some food, her mother got dizzy and walked in front of a carriage. Her death caused a crash and the nobles in the carriage to get hurt. As such, the nobles took Esana to pay for the damage and after seeing her fighting spirit, they sold her to the Calimport Arena.

As soon as they got her to the arena, they put a dagger in her hand and forced her to fight another urchin for food. A way to test which of the children they bought had potential. It broke something in the child she had been. Starting at that point she became less and less feeling, numbing herself to survive. After her first survival, she was paired with a prisoner of war as a mentor. He was the only kindness and goodness in that part of her life. Teaching her to survive despite the odds. He was strict, but always fair and he always had something good to say to her after the training in their cell. Every night, they were in kept in small ground in some kind of cellar without minimal lightning from the cracks in the wood of the celling. During the day, the gladiator and their apprentices were kept in a bigger cellar under the arena to train and pass time. It lasted for 8 years, she was allowed 2 years of training and fighting the other urching from time to time for further weeding the worst of them.

When she was 10, she started fighting for real in front of a bloodthirsty crowd. She was given a new name, for on the sand, your name meant nothing, you were given a name depending on your fighting style and appearance or Origine. Hers was Warlike, Esana, because not many woman survived those fights as unscatted as she was. The first time they had her fight to the death, she refused to kill her oponent. She was punished for it, but she simply always refused to kill them. Seeing her rebel like that, they almost put her down, but people were comming to her match to see the woman who could fight anyone. So they took another approach and had her fight criminal condemned to death. Each time telling her of their crimes so she felt she was bringing Justice at least.

It took her about 6 years to gain her freedom through countless killing. During that time, her mentor was killed for talking about Lathander where the guards caught him. Having nothing after her gaining her freedom, she simply started to waste away until a paladin of Tyr found her. She was her late mentor's older sister and she was looking for her brother. She had heard rumors that Esana had been his apprentice in the arena and wanted to know everything she could tell her of it so she could try a rescue. It opened some kind of floodgate to tell her about her mentor's death and life in the arena. She saw how much it had hurt the young aasimar and she knew a little of that kind of hurt and what it could do to someone. Since her brother was no more, but this young one was a part of him, an heritage of him, she offered her to take her in and train her so she could earn her redemption and make all the death she caused to not have been in vain. So Esana followed her, chosing a new name as she brought her to her chapter house to train. During her training, her new mentor realized Esana had celestial blood and thought her to master that part of herself as well. While they were out against monsters, her new mentor was killed. That's when she learned she had adopted her as sister to them. She used what little money he left her to adapt his armor so she could wear it proudly.
