The elf Alarielle, and her companion Ytarya, casued quite a stir amongst locals of Ulgoth's Beard when the sight of a hellball being summoned out into the coastline was both seen, and heard. The waves shaking nearby ships and the subsequent disruption bringing many dead and charred fish, crabs, and other sea life to the surface of the water, or washed up along the beach.

The man known to some as Sel, has been nearly nightly, at the shoreline of Ulgoth's Beard, seemingly deliberating at the edges of the water for long periods of time throughout the night.

OOC Often There is a number of in game props/clues for my plots. These only remain as temporary features while server is up. To provide an indication of when such clues are in game there will also be present an NPC 'Sparty' at FAI, and Soubar near Mudd. Also located at Market Building Sshamath Central,(When clues/drops relate to Upperdark/Underdark)
Sparty at the elfsong, implies there are specifically clues within Baldur's Gate Harbour

IE if he is in game - some plot clues will be also be present. (this may save you unnecessarily looking for things when they are not there ie no 'sparty' no clues)

Other clues are held with PCs and as persistent documents and designed to encourage RP

Coast Chronicles as retold by Nus the Bard.

What about the Temples you ask! well let me tell you what I heard at the House of Cards, those socialite houses building Kings, hmm and toppling them too.

Deerdrie Dafor, of house Dafor was hosting a collection for the orphans recently and was heard to remark" One might consider the Temple of Mystra like an old friend, a stalwart of the City, yes, always smiling always busy asking things, holding things, but you know sometimes one is measured by success ya." Erne Eyzt of House Eyzt was quick to counter with her own thinking. "Perhaps then they should take a leaf from that small but busy Temple Ilmater, these past few months the very darling of attention, mending adventurers, gathering funds, I heard for a grand new project, too long dormant. One does not set example by sitting on gold, no one is measured by the spending of donation, not the hoarding."

"I heard House Vale may be up for sale recently once often dependable it seems to lie dormant. "teased Amelia Anjinson second cousin of House Anjinson and keen to join the conversation. However someone not known to this Bard reminded her " Gone but not forgotten and to be fair one of their number was near done to death recently in silly Soubar were they not?" "Oh dear "cried Blessed Bordan the third "We must hope that stalwart House Spades holds the dangers away from the City."

But enough socialising what of the big stories and where is the wealth at ? Pursuit of the Dragons, white mostly, some say blue, too. Spiders! there is money in spiders and death perhaps, from the Titan mines to the Wyvern hills, spiders. Art! money in art, young Teris for his birthday thought art. Gatherings! the spring gatherings draws people and people draw gossip and gold. Been a few, some more for sure before the Summer.

Why the coast is literally overwhelmed with things going on, new bosses, new losses. In all that rumour, counter rumour, outright lies, the truth is in the detail, oft missed. Whether Balor, spider, Devil or doppleganger be your poison it is a pale reflection of the collective picture. The biggest danger is perhaps yourself!

Random Happenings
A small fire in the palace district was quickly extinguished by locals. Apparently starting in the merchant collective, it was believed to have been started by a cursed artifact being mishandled in a neighbouring store.

Deirdre's Jemcutting was heavily damaged in the fire and while there was limited valuables on the premises nothing appears to have been taken in the subsequent chaos. Unfortunately, several years worth of jewellery and custom accessory designs were completely destroyed in the fire. Rumours indicate this may have been a noble covering up the purchase of items for their lover or even rivals seeking to put her out of business. Law enforcement has dutifully done the minimum amount of investigation as no one was harmed.

When asked a half-orc who worked in the collective told authorities "Fire was not a woman. Was not a ghost". No one else had anything more useful to offer.

Distant Stories
The story spreads slowly from the far East of Faerun, told by loremasters, bards and explorers, carried on ships and caravans while changing much from one teller to the next.

The story is of a devouring book. It appears like any other, bound in red leather with a sigil of knowledge upon it. It appears to learned scholars and mages without rhyme or reason, sometimes appearing in areas of powerful magic or lost lands. It is a document that promises its reader knowledge equal to decades of study and the central tenets of rewriting reality on a whim. When one reads this tome they become so engrossed in its enthralling knowledge that they are literally consumed by it, with no evidence to show their passing save the now mundane book.

The tale also tells of an elven woman, intimidating and cold with a militaristic and noble bearing. Mirthless but true. Ever exhausted, she follows tales of these books and the hidden place of learning they take mortals to. A staff formed of mist and ice floats behind her, turning those who oppose her into vacant eyed fools or distant memories.

Special Delivery
Messengers and servants along the coast have noted a spree of mail theft.

Expensive seeming packages and letters being carried by animal, magic or humble delivery person have all gone missing. A handful of cases claim to have heard a sizzling sound before hand but most noticed nothing but strong winds at the time. Only certain items have been targeted with a number of cases occurring where only a single letter among many had vanished. Aside from the luxurious paper, none recall anything of interest about the missing packages.

After three days of this strange occurrence, deliveries have returned to normal with no further strangeness.

Coast Chronicles as retold by Nus the Bard.

News just in, or perhaps news just out - of the sewers. There are rumours a number of strongly led Guild groups have recently descended the sewers. It is said some stumbled upon a terrible fight. A group of Polvich necromancers had fought a host of Drow necromancers to a standstill. Casualties among both were finished off by vampires prevalent in the area. A collection of empty heal bottles, wands and stone roots suggested the battle had been mighty. Little other detail has so far emerged.

The action it seems quickly switched to Soubar, a well defended village of exotic creatures, Undead, Balors, spiders, people, all plague that strange place one wonders what they are all after.

A new Investment House - The Deck of cards was established at Baldur's gate to promote sea trade. Investment and ships are sought. Other sea faring types were also spotted around the harbour looking for fast ships to purchase. Maybe there is a new dawn of seafaring being built at the Gate.

The Yondalla Yarns remain a children's story. Blue Dragons merely stories to frighten farmers. The Gifts of the Gods apparently gifted elsewhere. If the onyx Orchid is real it has not healed my thirst for Belbuck Ale!

They say that Chaos now reigns supreme as the sword coast is plunged into despair.
As one problem is laid to rest another one arises.
"Such is the way of things on the Sword coast" many say.

Rumors have turned to fact in regard to the army of Yaun-ti reinforced by the demon and undead in the north.
Brave defenders halt the advance at Boareskyre bridge though it seems it is only a matter of time before the defending force is exhausted and overrun.
Soubar now lay's in the enemies sight, though with the construction of the gates not yet completed and only with around hundred defenders, most who are wounded by previous battles the odd look stacked against them.
The death of an Ebon Blade mercenary and the political mess that resulted only added to the odd's stacked against Soubar and it's defenders.
It is rumored that the main force of the Yaun-ti is preparing to make it's devastating strike.

Meanwhile in Ducal lands- the famine and food shortages continue, though the generosity by many factions have minimized the severity of it for now.
Though the public is still hostile and fearful of the demons that once plagued the city. Persecuting Tieflings and those who have registered as warlocks.
Though the Followers of Orcus have not been seen on Ducal lands willingly since the woman known as Carah was spit out from a portal into the farmlands, the Flaming Fist has been seen making preparations or a defense. Most hold their breath and hope that it is all for not.

Rumors abound that Two large demons are still unaccounted for namely Xaian and Garganix. Where and what they are up to only the god's know... or do they?

At Baldur's Gate some relief to the food shortages, the battles at the bridge, Triel admitting they are not in command, worse perhaps, fashion taking a tumble, as the Coast stands hungrily to arms.

Admiral Yongfall leads his fleet majestically across the harbour in a reassuring gesture marking the return of the Shining Sea traders, a motley collection of sea worn ships laden with shining seas goods drops into berths laden with seasonal goods.

A bustling crowd of merchants and investors soon gather to check on the cargoes, opportunists and the hungry too. The Investment House -the deck of Cards among them, already planning next seasons trading.

Welcome goods for sure but too much luxury perhaps for the current markets haunted by shortages of basics. But various foods nonetheless, good for the hungry less so for the traders and investors seeking high prices that have fled the city. Meanwhile the local merchants hustle driving prices down.

Before the day is even out plans to fund the repair of ships the funding of merchants and plans for more basic cargoes are underway to capture the current market. Investors are sought.

Elsewhere overland goods were delayed from the south as reports of spider attacks grew. Only guild protected goods and donations were getting through briefly. The matter was resolved by a strong sweep by adventurers into the Xvart plains destroying spiders and securing safety. The road open wagons resumed.

Rumours of rare ales greatly exaggerated, Dragon sightings unfounded, The threat of Polvich pales perhaps, pirate treasures sink further, Balors are here.

The Shadow Collector
A massive magical detonation that sickened travellers as far away as Thundar's Ride occurred in the Fields of the Dead. What triggered the blast is unknown, but the force was enough for the region to be devoid of ghosts and other spirits for at least a full day.

As reported by Nus the Bard, some events along the coast

Has the tide turned this bard asks ?

Trade organised by responsible Guilds as far afield as Greenest continue to drive the right supplies into the City. Locally crops grow supported by Druid chanting. The Deck of Cards, a Baldurian Investment house gathers potential investors for the sailing of the fleet. Opportunities to invest in relevant areas of the fleet activity are underway. A meeting at Ulgoth's Beard on the cards, as it were. Potential investors should make themselves known.

The assaults on Soubar temporarily ground to a halt inspires other more hopeful activity much to the Dukes delight. A Fey inspired party at the Siren's song masked much previous city ills. Druids danced south of the City, more tributes to much needed food. Great magic was offered for charity on behalf of the City the Temples of Inner Light, and Ilmater much to the fore.

Also this bard obtained a scoop on another good news story from below the City. A group of three seasoned adventurers from the Sea of Fallen Stars area were rejoicing an escape at the Phoenix Company bar. The three heroes reluctantly explained they had come to the coast seeking a profit in adventure and had been hunting bandits in the sewers aware of rewards for returned items. A task they seemed to this Bard more than capable of but they were undone not by bandits but by hundreds of spiders that drove them deeper down towards the so called Undercity. They stopped short half way hiding and trapped. Their terrible plight likely lasted weeks before an even more powerful resolute and determined force of Phoenix Company, Rising Flame and their allies were sent by the Flaming fist to rescue them.

Early reports suggest up to a thousand spiders were brushed aside by this rescue. The lost adventurers were taken swiftly to safety and in a show of determination said they would continue their work on the coast recovering lost items for the good people of Baldur's Gate as a thank you to their rescuers.

The Flaming Fist confirmed they had made a sweep of the sewers and reassured everyone they could return to more social activities knowing the Flaming Fist were hard at work and this had been an isolated incident and the area officially spider free!

Flaming Fist scouts are taking a large number of game animals from The Cloakwood and surrounding area. A wagon is regularly seen making the trek back to the city loaded with their handy wood.

Small conflicts between Flaming Fist soldiers and Gnolls start to spill out of The Cloakwood over the coming days. With the bodies of the gnolls found left in open after each encounter thus far.

Coast Chronicles as retold by Nus the Bard.

News from triel, adding previously donated power, and wealth, and a recent donation the Captain there declares they are in a better place. Magic defences and training have been established scouting with guild aid an ongoing concern. A militia reserve for the Hellriders all bring anew stablity to the region and the surrounding trade routes. Nearby traders starting a new era of bold trade to far parts.

This trade theme was taken up elsewhere by the House of Cards and other traders at Baldur's Gate opening sea routes as trade shifts away from absolute essentials to more luxurious goods. Already the longer sea routes are betting on luxury goods for the future.

On adventuring goods one item remains a drag on performance. Poisonous goods sold at Mudds, and elsewhere threaten the integrity of the process and investigators are invited to pursue this fear with vigour. Where the contamination enters the system has not been determined and so no authority has taken overall responsibility. Mudds are offering a reward for information.

(This is a player initiative overseen by dm but player anticipates a hunting party or two)

There are rumours circulating one of the relics known as the gifts of the Gods has been recovered.

Just another week on the coast.

In a sudden turn the somewhat quiet conflict erupts in the last day within Cloakwood. The Flaming Fist clashing in larger numbers with larger numbers of tolls that appeared to suddenly be on the defensive.

Image

While several soldiers are injured in the offensive, no dead soldiers are observed being carried out of the forest. Almost a day after the start of the skirmishes replacement troops are clearly observed entering the area around The Friendly Arm.
