Rumors & RP of Darkhold
Image
In the Far Hills, near the Sunset Mountains of the Western Heartlands and the edge of the Sword Coast region, there looms a castle of immense proportions, rising from a bare rocky spur on the side of the mountain named the Gray Watcher. Its walls are streaked red by the rusting bars upon the windows; its chimneys spew forth a smoke of blackest night. Darkhold, or Castle Darkhold, publicly serves to protect the Far Hills, harbor trade caravans in need of re-supply, and facilitate diplomatic relations between the Inner Sea and the Sword Coast. It is claimed and occupied by the Zhentarim organization.

The entrance to Darkhold remains open—yet fully guarded—to caravans, merchants and traders that would seek business with the Zhentarim, allowing those with reason, enter to the outer courtyard, under strict rule as "guests" of the Zhentarim.

Rumors spread quickly through the seedy taverns and shadow-filled alleys that with the recent renewal of caravan traffic through Sunset Mountains unscrupulous adventurers can often find rewarding work within the walls of Darkhold, if they have the courage and the skill.

//OOC note: We will be having a player ran event this Saturday at 20:00 GMT in the Darkhold courtyard, everyone is welcome to attend. We know that those damned ogres are ridiculously strong so we will look for a DM to help us clear them out or give people a ride up the mountain. Evil aligned folks can get up there on their own, they just need to find out how (hint: some NPC's in Corm Orp actually have dialogues ;) )

A group of several men was seen leaving Darkhold. Armed and prepared for combat they descended down the Sunset Mountains slaughtering the savage ogres on their path. Halfway down the trail they came upon a grizzly scene: A campsite, torn asunder, and littered with gore they could identify as human remains. The group obliterated the ogres surrounding the campsite and investigated the scene thoroughly before returning to Darkhold.

An astonishing scene played out earlier yesterday. Guide Teo of Cendlekeep and the fiend Za'than were seen entering darkhold asking for directions to Fzoul. Later the two are seen leaving with a scroll in hand speaking of their success.

Two figures were seen entering Darkhold courtyard yesterday, one hooded and the other wearing a mask. Rumors say that the hooded figure was laughed away when he asked for directions to "Fzoul".

The courtyard at Darkhold was closed to entry for a time. Caravan drivers waiting to enter and proceed on their route could spot a gathering of several figures on the ramparts. In the next instant a figure was pushed over the edge, spinning by its neck as a rope snapped taut above it. Over the next several tendays visitors could spot the solitary, lifeless figure hanging from the bulwark, swaying like a reed in the wind. Some might recognize it as Ameris Santraeger.

*Za'than once more appears at the Fortress of Dark Hold.

*The roaring wind, carrying the chill of frost with it, as he exits the caravan leading into the hold primary. He covers his eyes, as he makes his way across the courtyard, the wind grappling his cloak, making its black fabric lash to the side.

After a tenacious walk, he gets to the primary courtyard.. after a quick confirmation, he walks up to a nearby guard, and points*

"Hi there! Seeing that you've had your fun... id like to buy those decorations you've recently added"

"Ten days seem abit overkill anywho, some fresh airing would do them good"

*He looks to the guard, tilting his head*

Image

*Before walking over to the campfire, he does add*

"Oh, and their possessions aswell... you know those would-be-holy crusaders aint worth much naked..."

((Ps. this is of cause about the captured, tortured and now dead members of the Radiant Heart and Church of Illmater, unless they decide to perma after ten days in captivity... in which case, Yay! useless body fun time!

pps. Moved to the correct place!))

*On the 12th day since the incarceration of the three, and having had no reply at his attempt to buy the bodies, and having just been met with silence, he leaves his contact information to the guard*

"Incase you decide on sell!

I realize its second-hand wares now, so wouldn't have paid full price anyway... Cant say its been profitable sofar, for any of us eh? Guess their order didnt want to trade with you or such... But ah well! When one vein is dry, you look for another one! Also, LOVE your armors, do please say if one comes up for sale! Tata"

*With that, Za'than nods respectfully at the guard, and takes his money elsewhere*

Over the last two days merchants and caravan drivers passing through Darkhold gates may notice a second figure hanging from the ramparts next to the Ilmateri priest. Some may recognize it as Cecilia Lafayette, paladin of Tyr.

Five days after the second body was hung, Zhentarim, merchants, caravans and visitors would notice with some curiosity that the two bodies which had been hanging from the ramparts previously, have disappeared. The still tied nooses remain swaying in the bitterly-cold winds.

Standing on the balcony of the fortress, steeled hands clasped together at the back, Lord Greldinard has his view fixed on the two empty nooses dancing uncontrollably in the strong cold northern wind. Unbeknownst to the nervous Zhentilar guards exercising beneath him, who all fear the masked man's wrath... a wide smile covers his face beneath the mask.

Guards whisper among themselves of the fate of the recent Trademaster. Some say he was carried away screaming to serve in the Zhentilar for embezzling funds, others that he was dragged away to the slave pens and a guard captain swears he saw a wyvern take off with him. No one in their right mind would dare to ask for the truth out of fear that the same fate would happen to themselves. Days pass and the expected news of a finding new Trademaster spread from Darkhold with the many caravans visiting it daily;
Seeking: Trademaster

Darkhold seeks to employ an accomplished merchant to serve as Trademaster. Knowledge in coinage of the Realms, relevant history and trade languages are expected. The merchant must be skilled in persuading others to accept business arrangements and have the means to build up an extensive network of contacts. Their duties at Darkhold is expected to take precedence above all others.

Any interested individual should report to a Zhentarim officer.

A lone figure walked out of the main building, the red horsehair crest on his full helmet marked him as one of the Zhentarim officers. Two guards moved to flank the officer as the Zhentilar at the gates stopped the merchant traffic, imploring attention from those gathered in the courtyard. The officers gaze swept over the gathered crowd indifferently, as though passing over a flock of sheep. A moment later he unrolled the parchment of paper in his hands and began reading.

//Outdated list//

The Black Network is issuing the following bounties:

Myhun Kren
Former Zhentarim officer, wanted for high treason and various offenses against the legal sovereignty of Darkhold. He is a dangerous wizard capable of disappearing into shadows without trace. Keen perception will be required for those willing to go after this traitor.

These bounties are only to be pursued within the northern region. Any acts of aggression outside of its vincinity will make the aggressor subject to local laws. Anyone who successfully claims one of these bounties can expect more well paying work in the future as well as temporary sanctuary in the Visitors' Tower if required. If you are claiming a dead bounty then you will have to provide irrefutable evidence of their demise.

One of the Zhentilar flanking the figure took the parchment of paper from the officer and nailed it to a noticeboard in the courtyard.

//NOTE: These are NOT assassination contracts, pvp rules are to be followed (unless there is an agreement between the bounty hunter and the target, but that is between them). If you complete a bounty write a rp post in this thread, or pm the Zhentarim account with an RP post if you wish to remain anonymous and we can post it for you. You will also have to provide proof (both IC and OOC) before collecting your reward. If you are bringing in the bounty alive send a pm to the Zhentarim account and contact one of the known Zhentarim members if you see them online. We check the account on a regular basis so the wait shouldn't be long at all.

Word spread from Darkhold of one of the Black Cloaks seeking guards,
WANTED

Capable people are sought for guard duty.

Details for contracts will be discussed in person.

Send word to Magus Navra or present yourselves at Darkhold.

OOC: Might not need saying but for clarification purposes, this would not make the character in question a member of the Zhentarim. Merely hired.

The figure on one of the two towers by the gate leading into Darkhold has become a usual sight for the guards on the walls. Few people willingly climb the stairs to expose themselves fully to the cold and harsh winds. The Magus had warded herself against the cold but the winds still played havoc with her dark hair and tugged at her robes. Only a warm fire, blanket and thick walls around oneself would make the discomfort go away. "No doubt the Dukes' lands and its people bask in the warmth of summer while I..." She looks up, snow mixed with cold, wet rain falling on her face and she sighs heavily. She leans over the stone wall, looking towards the bridge. A merchant caravan was approaching slowly, they were tired from the journey up the mountains but trying to hide it. The guards' backs straightened noticeably as they came closer, not wanting to appear lax in the eyes of the guard captains in the Hold. The Magus watched them pass and walked to the other side of the tower to overlook the courtyard, trying to guess what goods were hidden in the wagons.

Would the caravan only make a stop here and continue? Or was this the destination? Such simple things was what she amused herself with. No reward for making the right guess. No punishment for making the wrong one. The answer was always easy at hand, she could wave down a guard, have them notify her... but it would ruin the fun. Contraband? It did not look like slaves were being delivered. Weaponry? Food supplies? That shipment of wines from the far south she had overlooked the order of herself...? No, not the wines. They would not be able to make a delivery that fast. Servants and guards began to unload the wagons, walking around hurriedly, trying to spend as little time as necessary in the cold. The Magus smiled. At least the cold made for hard working people. They had to keep moving to stay warm. The horses were seen to, the wagons removed from the courtyard and soon everything was still and quiet again. Guards returned to their posts, staying close to the large braziers in a effort to stay warm and attempted to look as vigilant as they could even if with no doubt, they were counting down the time till the end of their shift.

Image
The Magus walked back to the side of the tower overseeing the road again. Nothing happened for some time. She pulled out a piece of paper from her right sleeve and unfolded it. Snow and rain began to dissolve the ink but she knew what it said already. Should she react somehow? What was a proper reaction? She stared at the blurry names. Her own name. It did not come as a surprise to see it there, she expected it after she had decided to not hide her allegiances. However... did writing things on a piece of paper, claim them as honest and sign it with a paladin's name make it all true? Suddenly the ground seemed too far away and she gripped the wall with both hands, her nails clawing at the cold stone as she was hit by dizziness. The paper had escaped her, stolen away by the winds. For a moment, she felt weak. Knew that she was weak. Knew that eyes were likely watching her. She tasted something and it made her angry. The Weave became clearer around her as it often did with emotion and she reached out, pulling at its string about to... The sound of a horse approaching quickly made her stop. A lone rider. She forgot her recent vertigo entirely and leaned dangerously far over the wall to see who it was. One of the outrider scouts sent to report something. She let out a breath she had not realized she held. The anger broken by the sudden distraction and gone. She watched the outrider speak with one of the Zhentilar officers and be sent out, to the cold again.

When the rider disappeared from view, the Magus was left wondering again what she was supposed to feel. Supposed to do. She shook her head, finding no answers at hand except for... Duty.
