...formally informally known as "the new adventurers"

Image

In the first days of spring, of the Year of the Arch, 1353 by Dale Reckoning, a simple post seeking shared interest in acquiring wealth and renown through adventuring upon the Sword Coast, inspired a small group of intrepid adventurers—as they may appear to some to be...—to band together, in company, collectively seeking fame and fortune. It is not only that these individuals find themselves wanting of this and that, but, it would seem, others of more established presence and need are looking for the eager and adventurous, in contract or quest...and thus a glue begins to form to bind them together in this shared purpose.

The Blade and Stars Inn—that place were, by fortune or fate, these "new adventurers" took lodging and made good use of the accommodations to further their objectives, resides on Windspell street, in Baldur's Gate. It was here, they were given The Legacy of Lorri Leavi quest, took employment from the merchant Tarnithe Harsfourt, and more....

Rumor spread, and when questions were asked of these intrepid young adventurers, the words often spoken were: "...ye be findin' the lot of 'em taking up meetins' at that ol' inn on Windspell street...." Was not long before the colloquial reference to this group, became that which they themselves employed, in order to promote their interest in adventuring for profit, renown, and more....

If questions are asked, the right ear turned and the need outspoken in social circles, one may find to contact either one of these individuals, or together, as a company...by leaving word at the Blade & Stars.

Quest of the Master Alchemist & Lady Alyth's Jewelry Box

Starring: Elrebrind Le’frent, Anders Tremanine, Elvawen Evriamyn, Elspeth Dhalvoon, Castyl Devillars, Caed Wynter-Rose, Tommy Mcstabstab.

Special Guests: DM Dreamcatcher, with extra secret additions by DM Spartacus.

Serendipity brought together the willing, and at campfire in the Eastern Farmlands, the New Adventures—though truly unnamed as a company—were formed.

The call of Caed Wynter-Rose, bolstered by the request by the Master Alchemist Nefzen, was the inspiration, the glue that bound them in this moment, and they took to complete a task, a quest…and adventure.

Their initial jaunt was to the Baldur’s Gate graveyard, where it was likely they could find some of the ingredients sought by the master alchemist. The group encountered many undead, the penultimate encounter being a cabal of necromancers that seemed to be active within a cave accessible from the graveyard.

Image

Luck would have it that the necromancers had done experimentation using imps—for what reason and what result, none would learn—but it was Caed Wynter-Rose that made sure to acquire a few imp stingers from the bodies littered about.

Image

It was also later that Caed found growing, within the graveyard, peculiar mushrooms…alas, he failed in skill to be able to cultivate any. Neither he nor Anders Tremaine—who seemed the most likely in profession to be able to harvest the wild mushrooms—could manage to acquire their potent flesh. It was remarked among the New Adventurers that, though they failed in this moment to do so, it would be worth the effort to return, in order to fulfill the quest of the alchemist.

Image

Within time, the group returned to the Eastern Farmlands and the merchant circle camped there, in order to acquire further supplies for a greater task: to seek out the ruins on the hilltop, south of Baldur’s Gate.

As it so happens, the weapons merchant there offered the group a new quest, to seek and retrieve a stolen jewelry box, by bandits, that as well, were holding up within the ruins…or at least, that was the rumor. The group agreed to take this quest, as it aligned with the quest of the alchemist.

Image

Once within the ruins of the hilltop, the group encountered many kobolds and rats, but dispatched them quickly. But soon, the bandits descended upon the Group with force, for it seemed that the first and early encounters gave up the Groups arrival to the bandits—a tactical error, one may say.

But at a certain point, it was decided upon within the group, to take a few steps of scouting and secrecy, in order to gain knowledge of just how great the forces against them, were. It was learned that, the bandits had retreated to a lower level, and were most likely planning to ambush the group, should they continue onward….

[Below is all text from other Players in the New Adventurers]

The adventurers bravely descended into the lower levels of the dungeon. After tracking the bandits to the lower level, Anders discovered a large group of tracks heading in one direction. Arriving there, the Group was beset upon by Bladelings-a cabal of bandit wizards were the source of this extraplanar incursion. Then, The group were slowly proceeding when they were attacked, and were beaten back to cover under an onslaught of walls of fire and spellfire, by bards and rogues first.

As they progressed they found a wizard of some sorts, together with magical acolytes. Again, the Group was attacked, and almost everyone got knocked out from a spell cast by the Cultist.

Elrebrind the Wizard was able to snatch a scroll of Shapechange in the melee, changing into a fearsome Cornugon, immune to fire and finish the battle and revive his comrades, easily thwarting the mages. In addition, fooling the New Adventurers' resident warlock into thinking he'd come to collect on her pact. When his deception was revealed, fortunately it was taken in good humour!

The illusion dispelled, the party found Lady Alyth's jewellery box, warded against attempts to open it. The bandits had other treasure too: a gem of seeing, a powerful wizard's robe, a staff infused with the power of a black dragon and an enchanted cold iron greatsword.

Deciding against exploring further into the ruins, the party returned to Baldur's Gate's outskirts where Lady Alyth was waiting for them. Presenting her with the stolen jewelry box, the party received five-thousand gold coins, and promises of free drinks at the Elfsong Tavern

The group didn't manage to get any of the ingredients…so it would seem, the New Adventures will have to return, if they wish to further fulfill the Quest of the Alchemist.[/i]

As I was leaving the safety of the city. I noticed a small group gathered around the fire, they seemed friendly enough. After I was done with Blunt, I walked up to the group and asked to share there fire. No one seemed to object, so I sat down and introduced myself.

It wasn't long before I realized they were planning some sort of expedition to gather ingredients that one of the local wizards needed to brew up his potions. I offered to aid them in there task and there wasn't much of a response, so I took that as a yes. I think they were more focused on who should lead the group then anything else. From what I could tell the others wanted Caed to take the roll, but the he seemed reluctant to step up. After some discussion on the subject I think the group decided that Caed would take the helm so to speak. I don't think he was very happy with there decision, but he seemed to go along with them anyway.

It wasn't long after that the five of us were headed off to the old graveyard to look for some mushrooms. I assumed that was on the list of ingredients the wizard needed. It wasn't long before we found some, but there was a bit of debate as to weather they were the right mushrooms or not. Maybe the wizard should have been more specific. Then someone pointed out a cave, and Anders said that would be a good place to hunt mushrooms. I think he is a ranger or something. He seemed to know his way around the plants and he even has a pet dog or wolf that would join him. While in the cave we were lucky enough to come across a dead imp, we removed it's stinger and continued on. We gathered what items we could and moved on. Dispatching some of the undead along the way.

After we finished up at the graveyard we stopped at Blunts stall to restock and discard any unwanted items. While we were conducting our business with Blunt he informed us that a lady with some noble standings had her jewelery box stolen and the thieves were last seen heading into the ruins just south of the bridge. Blunt also informed us of the rather large reward being offered for it's return. He warned us against trying to open the box, for it was warded against any unauthorized tampering. With plans to explore the ruins for more of the ingredients and a letter from the old sage to deliver as well, It was beginning to look like this trip to the ruins could be quite profitable. We finished up our business with Blunt and hurried of to catch up with the suspected thieves.

Upon arriving at the ruins we were promptly ambushed, seems someone was expecting us. They posed little threat to our group as we dispatched with little effort and proceeded on into the ruins. With Anders guiding the way, we searched the area for any sighs of the thieves. It wasn't long before we were attacked by some bandits, they didn't put up much of a fight as most of them ran off into the darkness. It wasn't long before Anders pick up there tracks and we held our position while he followed the tracks deeper into the ruins. After a short time Anders returned and said the tracks lead to a lower level of the ruins. We slowly made our way to the stairs down, deeper into the ruins. The thieves must have been waiting for us on the other side of the door, for all I remember is darkness and then waking up with quite the headache.

Some days later, Caed Wynter-Rose makes effort to send runners to communicate to the other New Adventures, that there lingers one other issue unresolved among them, related to a finding from their first outing: the two odd prayer books that were located, one in the necromancers' cave, and one in the ruins on the hilltop.

Image
Image

Caed's message to those involved, is simple and simply passed on by the messenger runner:

"It was posted by others of certain stature that such findings—these prayer books—are wanted, sought out...and thus of some value. I would ask that we convene to a place and discuss to what ends we shall deal with an exchange, or...to hold onto this value for our own greater benefit.

Please meet with me at the Blade and Stars at your earliest moment. ~Wynter-Rose"

He said little and took a room, most likely for recovery. If Tanithe would inquire further, he would learn the name of this man is Caed Wynter-Rose, as well, depending on Tanithe's social skills, may be able to gain the actual room...if Tanithe would care to search out this lead further.
Tanithe's questioning is punctuated by his desire to sample the Blade and Stars' fine food and beverages, being a man whose girth implies a fondness for luxuries not available on the road. Nonetheless, he seems distracted by a concern weighing on his mind, and his enquiries are as diplomatic as the wine allows. While reticent to leave his table to search for this young adventurer, especially given the innkeeper's opinion on his state of health, Tanithe advises that something very valuable has been taken from him, and that he would be eager to finance a questing to recover it. He even presses a shiny Zazesspur gulder into the hand of any member of serving-staff willing to summon the adventurer once he feels sufficiently rested.

As was often the case with such things, Tanithe's predicament was solved by simple coincidence. While strolling along the harbour front, the Tethyrian came across a young adventurer who turned out to be none other than Caed Wynter-Rose, one of the company he had been seeking.

Over drinks at the Blade & Stars, Tanithe recounted the loss of the deed to his carpet warehouse in Zazesspur's old town, stolen by a brigand who fled into the sanitation tunnels beneath Baldur's Gate.

While the merchant spoke at great and indeed possibly tiresome lengths about his predicament, other members of the company arrived. After some deliberation, after which Tanithe's loquaciousness led him to impulsively offer further boons to the adventurers, offering to supply them with potions and scrolls and to lend his own arm too the recovery.

The final sum stood at 2 bags of gold, plus the aforementioned consumables and sundries.

Notably missing was Elspeth Dharvoon, the Waterdhavian not having any relish to tramp about in anybody's filth, thank you very much, if any other members of the Company mention it to her.

13th day of The Claw of the Storms, 1353 by Dale Reckoning, Castyl Devillars and Caed Wynter-Rose took upon them the quest for alchemical resources in the form of berries found on an island near the township of Ulgoth's Beard, a request presented to them—and possibly others...who can say—by a priestess in the markets of the Eastern District of Baldur's Gate.

These two adventurers were cautious at the outset, questioning their limited number in company, against what is rumored to be an island populated by a sea-born beast that walks on land, tribal in nature and not without magical means...possibly shamanic in nature.

They set out nonetheless, and...at first, their encounters with the monster race found there, were manageable within their low-form skills and abilities—they were gaining confidence, after each hard earned battle, and, each time they successfully located a berry tree.

But at one turn of the path, they encountered both matron and baron of these sea-land monsters, and the encounter was immediately turning into a fateful—and early—death...

...yet out of the ether arrived another, a female archer of great skill and arrows of elemental forces, who launched a volley through the melee, and defeated the sea-land beasts, saving both Caed and Castyl—but most directly Caed—from a short life lived.

The story ends with a successful hunt for the berries, and safe return to the mainland, and rewards for Caed and Castyl, both in experience and coin. And...more possibilities...

...for what Caed and Castyl did notice, on this island, stood constructed one monument in form of an altar, and two temples or buildings built on high, one easily reached and another defended by gates. Though seemingly abandoned, these structures became objects of fascination for the two adventurers, who now were seeking the history of their construction, the history of the island in particular, and... the secret to who—or what—now controlled those installations.

For...whomever would come to control them, may acquire a impenetrable base of operations...or so, Caed Wynter-Rose would speak of, to any other of this group, of whom he could capture their attention.

A robust, older Tethyrian man can be sighted ordering cheaper than usual wines in the more upmarket inns of Baldur's Gate.

In his cups, he is loudly and bombastically adamant that Caed Wynter-Rose and his band are heroes worthy of the name, and that anyone in need of assistance should contact them at the Blade and Stars.

"If you do so, friend," he'd say with somewhat excessive ebullience, "tell them that old Tanithe Harfourt sent you! You shan't be disappointed, not at all, no sir!"

The Legacy of Lorri Liveai and the Stolen Papers of Tanithe Harfourt

Starring: Anders Tremanine, Elvawen Evriamyn, Castyl Devillars, Caed Wynter-Rose, Mim and Tanithe Harfourt.

Special Guests: DM Spartacus

Image

Hesper the Inn Keeper calls over to the group that has congregated near the hearth: "So say are you here to meet with Lorri Liveai's group? Lori is...was a member of the Sword Coast Adventurers, met up here every year to talk on the old days..I assumed..you were they..."

Hesper the Inn Keeper looks down at a document, confused, then carries on: "I was asked to explain the Legacy for those that turned up this day...will you hear his story?"

The adventurers listen intently, though already they are geared and ready for adventure, the lingering quest from employment to Tanithe Harfourt.

"To catch a rat by Lorri Liveai

When first to Coast, and eager to be abroad on dangerous mission I chanced upon the town discussing the price of slaying rats in the sewers

The first year they, the city, sparing no expense hired the best an elite team of rangers....and specialists
Now three such experts went down silently, well equiped and professional as any
There was a hushed crossbow bolt, a sudden deadly strike for the rats it was all over
Much rejoicing in the city

The next year the rats returned the city did not want to spend quite the funds after all the problem was so quickly solved
No this time they hired an Order of Knights....
horn sounded, drumm beat, orders were shouted
down they clattered and clambered
Volleys of arrows, walls of shield..spell let fly
Long story short there was some thrashing about a rat escaped here and there but job done

The next year...
Well the job had been done quite well the rats were back the city could not be wasting money
They thought ..the City Militia, not enough to do with their time ...always eating pastries why not use them
So they put together a group drawn from across the City, so as not to incur extra expense, told them to be back before their watch was finished
Not used to working together, no planning, no cooperation ... a sorry group of adventurers they set to work
Make no mistake this was a rag tag outfit out of their depth and in the wrong sewer
Much shouting cursing, one even shot one of their own by mistake...a rat was chased
a spider claimed, and a mouse declared a rat

So Lorri's question and he asked it every year
and I for he, ask it of you
What sort of Rat Catchers will you be?"

Image

And so it was that the "new adventurers" delved unto below the streets of Baldur's Gate, looking to discover the reality behind the rats, the loss behind the legacy and the possessors of the paperwork—two quests melding into one...which some of the group saw as fortune's blessing, and others accepted as ominous.

Image

Oh...the "rats" were discovered! And it was not the rodent type—it was, as suspected by a few, that the rats were the criminals that feed off the underbelly of the Gate, and...they had acquired the "legacy" of Lorri—that being a fairly well-collected treasury—of which the "new adventurers" earned through a trial of combat.

Alas, the paperwork of Tarnith Harsfourt was not recovered...but the merchant did find a certain satisfaction that those that wronged him, were not very dead, rats.

Among the treasures of the "Legacy" of Lorri Leveai, were a few artifacts that seemed of no immediate value, but...seemed altogether odd to be lumped with enchanted swords, bows and such things. These items of oddness amounted to a Tymoran coin, a satchel of prayers, a tome called the Five Secrets of Polvich, and a jade object(?).

Image

It is altogether possible that, later, in and about the Blade & Stars Inn, that others not of the "new adventurers" themselves, would hear rumor—or eavesdrop such—of the particular treasure(s) that were recovered.

Journal of Anders Tremaine

Well, what an event this has proved to be. It started simply enough, an overly garrulous merchant named Tanithe needing some deeds returned to him. Dangerous work, but well within the group's capacity. It was in preparing to set out, however, that the real mystery presented itself - the Legacy of Lorri.

Like most such things it began by happenstance, right time, right place. An innkeeper telling a tale of petty bureaucrats, rat catchers and unfulfilled promise. And a legacy, a word which had us all intrigued. As we were travelling to the sewers anyway it was decided to attempt both tasks at once.

The sewers are a miserable place, filled with large vermin and some form of humanoid I had not encountered before. But we worked our way methodically through the grime until the warlock, Elvawen, and I happened upon a heavy set of tracks. Gathering our forces together we discovered the 'rats' were a crew of brigands based in the bowels of the city, strangely heavily made up of dwarven folk.

After dispatching these 'rats' we discovered the secret of Lorri's Legacy - some powerful weapons, a ring -which I took for myself to enhance my ranger abilities- and a collection of items that was most curious indeed. Of this collection, I took a book - the Asterleys at Waterdeep- and the others shared the treasure out.

I have the most curious feeling that the book is important is some way, though in what I do not know. I have decided I will seek Caed's help out in ascertaining its value or worth, as he seems to be versed in the magical arts. Perhaps it is important or even worth something. All I know is that it is beyond my sphere of experience.

I have left the following message at the Blade in Stars:

"Caed,

Upon sharing out the various items of Lorri's Legacy, I was left with a book, the Asterleys Waterdeep. I know it was one of a pair of books in the Legacy. I'm afraid my knowledge of books or lore is quite limited. I saw that you took the companion book. Do you know if it is worth anything? Any advice you can give would be most welcome. Leave a message with the innkeep if you have any pertinent information.

Your comrade
Anders"

A note was left at the Blade and Stars

"It occurs to me that we may want to keep track of who all got what from the legacy of lorri....The book that I obtained was named The Great Black. Upon reading it however it would appear the pages of the book have become blank....I do not know how or why this occurred."

Signed, Elvawen

((For real though I read the book looked at it again and it was a blank book. Dunno if it can be rewritten or what but I dont remember what all it said.)

Caed Wynter-Rose meets some of The Windspell guild at the Blade & Stars, also acquiring the note left by Anders. Hoping to speak with Anders in person, Caed immediately does not leave a message in return.

Should Anders arrive at the Blade & Stars of his own accord, finding no return message from Caed, he may inquire to Hesper the Innkeeper about the Windspellers, and learn of their impromptu meeting, and that those assembled were attempting to catalog the many artifacts they seem to now be in possession of.

Caed Wynter-Rose is seen entering the Wide with a hired hand following behind, manipulating through the foot traffic a single-wheel cart, loaded to the edges with contents unknown, all covered by a tightly secured woven tarp.

Caed is walking with a pride in his step, towards the known location of the master alchemist Tarent Nefzen—the Windspell company man holding a loosely rolled scroll in one hand.

Tarent Nefzen, Scribe, Wand Crafter and Master Alchemist has need of your skills!
There are many ingredients needed in order to meet the demand for his Arcane Wonders and stock is running low. So if you seek paying work in acquiring the items he needs, rare or mundane find him at his tent within The Wide!

Currently, the following ingredients are needed:
Luminescent Moss
Hide of Troll
Tongue of Mimic
Heart of Gibberling
Multiple rare plants, inquire at The Wide
Werewolf Teeth
Imp Stingers
Gauth Stalks
Mushrooms with special, anti-venom properties

*Any other items useful in the preparation of magical potions will be appraised and, if determined useful you will be compensated!

**Bonus pay is available for those who bring large quantities of useful components!

Adventuring is dangerous work, Tarent Nefzen takes no responsibility for any death, dismemberment, or other deformity or hardship brought on while in his employ to acquire components of any kind. Each man or woman is responsible for themselves and should only undertake quests for which they are qualified. By entering in to agreement with Tarent Nefzen the adventurer waives any right, perceived or actual to recompense for hardship, injury or death.

///Not all of the above items can be obtained in game, screenshots can be PM'd as evidence of components.
Arriving to the desired location and hopefully finding Nefzen present, Caed takes a moment to make his introduction, and let it be know that he arrives on behalf of the Windspell Adventurer's Guild, to deliver these ingredients, for equal and fair reward, in return.

"What I have brought you this day, is the following items, acquired at great expense and against great odds, by we that travel together under the name Windspell."

Caed lifts the woven tarp off from the single-wheeled wagon, and as he shows the master alchemist the goods, he lists them by name.

"We have a stinger of an imp, the tongue of a mimic, healing moss in three bundles total, a fairly despicable heart of a gibberling, one mushroom that cures against poison of many vile types, the venom of the Ettercap beast, juice of the brain of a Carrion Crawler, a mandible from a monstrous spider, and...as a gift to celebrate our mutual success, a platter of Elturian grey cheeses...which you enjoy now, or later, as you may wish."

As the sun beats down upon the Wide, Caed Wynter-Rose covers the cart once more to shield the items from spoilage, and looks back to the master alchemist.

"Now then, sir...what shall you reward the Windspells with?"
