DM Rumours of Sshamath

Unread post by DM Fugue »

It certainly isn't complicated to gather leaked information in Sshamath, the walls have ears.
And though I played the role,
I lost my soul, it's still within your heart.
It took a part of me, the heart of me..
To watch it fade away, It's over now..
Shades of blue and purple haunt me..

Ghaunadaur Cultists

Word spreads that cultist fanatics have been spotted in the caverns to the South of Sshamath. They're said to attack whoever endangers the gelatinous cubes in the caverns and their priests are known to curse who endanger the cubes. It is said they do not care about gold nor trinkets, they're obsessed with protecting the cubes.
And though I played the role,
I lost my soul, it's still within your heart.
It took a part of me, the heart of me..
To watch it fade away, It's over now..
Shades of blue and purple haunt me..

New Conclave Seat
The loudest rumor in the City concerns Archmage Ilphryssin Arkentlar, Grandmaster of the 7th Circle, who was elevated to Conclave Seat within Undrek Valanar's fortified halls by the very authority the Conclave itself granted to their Envoy and Lord Castellan Raevirr, currently in command of the keep.

Rumors say an attack was tried against the fortress, but it is unclear if it happened before, during or after the ceremony, nor if it happened at all.
Somebody told me I should do what they told me...
But there's a hole in that plan, and I'm tearing it down...

A mob of angry and fanatical Drow citizens within Sshamath, both male and female claiming to be devote worshippers of Lollth and followers of the excarch Selvetarm have sworn vengence against those that have defiled and stole unholy relics from the temple of Lollth. Many individuals can be seen hording together in the Dark Weavings marketplace, buying equipment and gear from deep gnomes and druegar merchants. Meanwhile, many grey dwarven smiths have begun working overtime, filling out an abnormal amount of weapon and armor orders within the Darkspires.

There is talk amongst these Drow of murder and revenge against those that would dare try to insult their unholy Matron and it is said that the Temple of Lollth and it's supporters fully encourage such acts of vengence. The conclave has increased patrols within their city as of late, not only to further protect against possible intruders in the future, but also to keep a closer eye on all the fantical drow springing up. Trade and business is still what drives Sshamath, and the conclave continues to maintain this, though through recent events, many are outraged at the surface world and any outsiders.

Bodies of a few drow and other beings have also been found, hung along the outer walls near the Fountain of Endless Elixir. Beneath them in Undercommon and using the victim's blood is a message for all to see.

"A gift for our Mother."

Two more bodies, this time female, are found hanging upside-down from a tall pillar near one of the sewer entrances of the market are found. Their hearts from their chest have been removed... Another under-common message below is written in clear, bright red blood.

" ' Heartless ' Traitors of our Mother. "

In addition, a scuffle in the marketplace had recently occurred. The conclave continue to try and patrol the area, but it seems more criminal acts is one the rise... Well.. at least more than what normally goes down on in Sshamath. The increase in trade also continues.

There was much fuss at the Temple of Lolth of Sshamath today, as three drows were seen attempting to open a gate leading to another plane.

Something went terribly wrong, the gate leading the four to the Abyss itself, before the temple's yathrins quickly closed it to prevent a demonic invasion in the city. After a couple of tense hours, a gate opened again inside the Temple, but this time only two drows emerged, a jalil and a jaluk, both deeply traumatized and injured.

The Charnag Maelthra has arrested the duo for violation of the laws of Sshamath concerning planar travel, and a trial is to be organized soon.

Some discontent started spreading throughout the streets of Sshamath today, as the two responsible ones for the attack on the temple of Lolth have been unceremoniously - and literally - kicked out of jail. The most devout Lolthites are outcrying to what they perceive as an affront, but the Conclave is quick to point out that the two drows are still bound to remain within the city by magical means.

Disgruntled officers of the Charnag Maelthra were seen removing each and everyone of these flyers:

while at the same time reinforcing locations considered "hot" with extra guards and personnel. ANYONE trying to stir further unrest inside the city is likely to be met with extreme prejudice.

At the same time, notes penned by a capable hand and signed with the official seal of the conclave are left throughout the city. The notes simply read:

"The individuals named Nawiel Jr'eine, Sussuri of House O'reb'lei and Akornita Kil'tarr will have to stand trial for their alleged crimes in 4 cycles from the release date of this notice. Let no one say that the Conclave is slow and unresponsive when dealing with law breakers."

This cycle the Charnag Maelthra has been very busy with preparing and organizing the tribunal for the process of the three adventurers who dared to openly attack the Temple of Lolth. Their movements are frantic and hasty, while the officers can be seen yelling often at their subordinates.

Outside the tribunal, petty races such as kobolds, goblins and orcs can be seen bringing some crates to the tribunal's courtyard, their contents unknown. When asked, said slaves only reply that they are for the duergars of Sshamath.

At the same time, a few faithfuls of Lolth stuck three pikes just outside the tribunal's entrace, each one with the names "Nawiel", "Sussuri" and "Akornita" carved on their wooden frame.

The trial will take place tomorrow.

"The faithful of Lolth of Sshamath are rejoicing for the supposed victory achieved by the Temple of Lolth.

Akornita Kilt'tar, Sussuri of House Oreb'le'i and Nawiel Jr'eine were found guilty of violating the laws of the City after they opened a Gate inside the Temple of Lolth. The sentence forced the trio to be banished from the City and udergo a dangerous monster hunt for the Conclave's amusement, whilst also allowing Ulathallar Be'liira Sshamath to administer the punishment of 50 strikes of flog to Sussuri and Nawiel, and 150 strikes of flog to Akornita.

Valaklith Sshamath, repeatedly and publicly praised by the Ulathallar for having swiftly closed the Gate, thereby preventing the city from being invaded by demons, was given the honor of administering the punishment to Sussuri and Akornita, while the warlock known as Xercia was tasked with flogging Nawiel.

The three quickly fell unconscious under the repeated lashings, and were then thrown out of the city.

The 7th circle somewhat managed to get out of the incident largely unscathed, putting all the blame on its agent Sussuri and demonstrating that he was acting on his own.

But the most grievous injuries are those suffered by two apparently distinct, yet related, entities....

House Oreb'le'i was publicly humiliated by the Ulathallar whilst also having been sentenced to pay the hefty sum of 250000 plak'las to the city, half of which will go to the Yath for reparations.

The faith of Eilistraee has instead taken the whole brunt of the punishment, being publicly accused of sheer incompetence, idiocy and, considering the fact that two Eilistreeans publicly declared to have asked the Yath for aid, hipocrisy.

Those that openly proclaim their faith to the Dark Maiden are met with contempt, scorn and disgust (even more so than before) by the majority of Sshamath's citizens, often being targeted by hails of thrown rocks and rotten spore fruits.

As apparently insignificant as this episode was, it undoubtedly served to strengthen the somewhat precarious position of the Yath after the attack suffered a few months before, and to bring its power and influence to the levels before the incident, whilst also showing that the Yath is well capable of taking care of itself, and the faithful say, capable of taking care of the Conclave's Mythal reported failure in protecting the city.

Secular citizensh of Sshamath are instead happy that the Conclave managed to get away from this diplomatic incident without particular damages to its reputation....but even they have to grudgingly admit that the temple has emerged victorious."

"The yathrinshee known as Andrastia, guilty of having caused a brawl in a tavern and having offended Lolth herself, was seen discussing with yathallar Lilith Sshamath in the streets for a long while, before finally following her to the temple of Lolth on her own free will.

After some moments, the Ulathallar and Councilor Bel'iira Sshamath, followed by two elite sargtlinen, reached the temple as well, most likely to have a chat with the rebellious female.

Despite the elite guards preventing anyone from accessing the temple, the agonizing screams and pleas for mercy bellowed forth by Andrastia were clearly audible for hundreds and hundreds of meters.

After a long while, Andrastia was lastly seen being dragged towards the Spider's Kiss begging for her death, now reduced to a bloody mess of gore and cuts, both of her tendons cut off and almost all of her body defaced by what looked like to be acid."

A traveling Oracle of Lolth entered the city under heavy escort and, after performing a small ceremony at the local temple, retreated to her chambers inside the Spider's Kiss. Faithfuls of the Spider Queen are encouraged to seek an audience with her to take advantage of her oracular skills, as long as they remember that there is a price for such a knowledge, and that it must be paid in blood.

Meanwhile, in the streets of Sshamath, flyers bearing the sigil of the Conclave start appearing nailed to lamp-posts:

"The Conclave is seeking a maximum of 6 specialized adventurers for a high-risk, high-reward mission involving the Ruins of Oghrann. Said adventurers should fulfill the sequent criteria:

- Have experience with covert operations OR
- Have extensive magical knowledge OR
- Having divine capabilities such as healing
- Be of at least moderate experience (OOC: level range of this event is between 10 and 20)

Those wishing to forward an application for the task can submit a letter (PM to me) to the School of Necromancy.

"A large warhost of drows, led by no other than the Ulaththallar Bel'iira herself, was seen parading through the streets, marching towards an unknown destination. After several cycles, the warhost then returned to Sshamath, triumphant and victorious, its weapons and armors blooded after what looked like a fierce fight.

Prisoners were then paraded through the streets, and the victorious raiders parted ways with copious amounts of loot and coin. When asked, those who attended the raid just say that "it was a wondrous experience".
