House Barrirahel's agents are seen buzzing around the city. They buy supplies. They order weapons. They treat with wizards of the School of Evocation. They purchase more tanarukk slave warriors. has been seen meeting with representatives of the Conclave.

They also are seen consulting with local hunters and cavestalkers, and with local experts on this region of the Underdark.

Obviously they are preparing for something.

A large party of slaves are seen leaving the rented Barrirahel spire. It is a display of wealth, as over a hundred slaves are marshaled out front for review by the Ilharess, Zebeywae, along with a "friend" from the School of Divination. Over three score are chosen, along with a contingent of house soldiers and mages, led by a lesser daughter and carrying appropriate supplies.

Zebeywae and the Diviner part ways on friendly terms.

A caravan carrying the wealth of a learned member of the school of necromancy to his new lair has been attacked. Most of the guards were hacked apart before being petrified.

The necromancer is said to go out to visit the site himself, with a strong contingent of guards. He is waved off by a member of the divination school, the one recently seen visiting House Barrirahel, who explains to the necromancer that he will find just what was promised. Its evident the necromancer and the diviner do not get on with each other. Upon his return he is heard complaining loudly that illithids stole his wealth.

He has cancelled his trip out of the city.

House Barrirahel are seen purchasing yet more tanarukk slaves - perhaps replacing those sent out of the city previously.

They appear to be well off for coin, however.

A battle took place in the underdark tunnels west of Sshamath.

It is rumoured that House Dev'lin and House Zau'afin clashed at the construction site of House Zau'afin's fortified hall. House Dev'lin had the upper hand, defeating the first wave of House Zau'afin's slaves, troops and nobles of the house. However they were driven off from the construction site by Zau'afin reinforcements.

A cycle later, a mage from the school of divination was seen teleporting to the construction site along with a full entourage and four steel golems. He appears to have come at the behest of the conclave. The mage departed soon after, but the golem's remain at the site, standing vigil.

Rumors of Sshamath's patrols through the nearby tunnels vanishing are cropping up throughout the city, along with the sight of slimes, oozes, and gelatinous cubes populating several areas outside the city. They seem to be devouring the former inhabitants of those tunnels before vanishing through cracks and holes.

House Barrirahel's rented compound grows quieter and quieter. A pretense has been kept up that it is still teeming with warriors and slaves, but the arts of deception only go so far and it seems that, somehow, their main strength has slipped out of the city.

To where?

For years, a crafty Duergar Merchant has been manning the red tent at the Sshamath city square, mostly selling food and to those who knew him secretly, poisons. On a business trip, the Duergar has since gone missing, with his rivals slowly but surely encroaching on his territory. He seems to be gone, but the market continues as it always has, and within a few weeks the red tent is occupied once more by a new merchant...

Vaszyne called out to a new faern to the city, Xhtul, asking him to run an errand for her. He was tasked to fetch her a fire beetle from the Gloura's brawlhouse in return for a word of favour with the Magthere of Necromancy. Pleased by the opportunity, Xhtul agreed and went to the Darkwoods ghetto.

After needing to 'persuade' the Gloura to show him where the shadier activities of the bar were taking place, Xhtul was able to bargain with a duergar to purchase his fire beetle pet for 50gp. With beetle in tow, Xhtul returned to Vaszyne to collect his reward.

Upon his return, however, Vaszyne cast some kind of spell upon the creature and tasked him further to deliver it to Zarmoon, renowned Sshamath entomologist. Zarmoon was incredibly pleased with the 'gift' and inspected its fine pincers. However, as soon as he touched it the bug exploded in a burst of fire and entrails!

Vaszyne cackled raucously in the background at her devious prank, knowing that for now she had one up on Zarmoon. Vaszyne promised to pass on word about Xhtul to the school of necromancy.

A discreet rumour spreads quietly amongst certain lower echelons of the mage schools about a clandestine duelling ring whereby certain apprentices, eager to prove the worth of their schools for a station of prestige amongst their peers, are in the habit of summoning creatures to battle one another.

When pressed for details, 'those in the know' flatly deny any knowledge of such rumours and instead blame the rumour-mongering of the priestesses of Lolth, who themselves flatly deny rumours of their rumour-mongering.

Anyone frequenting the drinking house in the Darkwoods might hear the odd murmurings about an up-and-coming summoning duel, very similar in substance to those rumours circulating amongst, but ostensibly denied by, the lower echelons of the mage schools and the Temple of Lolth.

The rumour has it the clandestine duelling ring shall gather together in another seven cycles of the skull at the Darkwoods drinking house, but the substance of the rumour is still difficult to ascertain at this time. Perhaps someone is trying to keep it from under the noses of the Conclave?

Rumor spreads in Sshamath that the city's Bureaucracy political body is looking to fill vacant seats with citizen representatives of factions in good favor with the Conclave. The Bureaucracy it is said will help the Conclave to administrate the City Guard, the Charnag Maelthra intelligence organization, and the City Militia against threats to the Conclave and the city by the Bureaucracy providing policy recommendations to each of these organizations, but these recommendations could always be overruled by the Magistrature or the Conclave. The Bureaucracy will be set to meet upon obtaining new membership within a few tenday it is said.

There is an official posting in various public areas of Sshamath that factional applicants interested in membership on the Bureaucracy should submit an application to the Conclave saying their applying faction name, their applying single speaking and single silent representatives, and their proof and pledge of loyalty to the Conclave. Each faction member of the Bureaucracy will be allowed one speaking member and one silent member the postings read.
