Information for GOG-purchased CD Key Validation

So I have noticed the occasional person here or there that, like me, purchased NWN2 from Gog with excitement, installed the game, jump onto multiplayer, enter a new (or old) username and password, hit sign-in and then BLAMMO:

So what do you do?

Step 1. Exit NWN2 and open your Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete installation directory. The default, for example, is c:/Gog Games/Neverwinter Nights 2 Complete, but you will need to find your installation directory.

Step 2. Find the program called "SerialTool". Run it.

Step 3. Enter your unique CD Keys from your GoG Account. Often these keys will already be prefilled in the boxes below. Hit save and close if you intend on following the optional step below, otherwise hit save & launch.

[Optional] Step 4. Download and install the client extension if you haven't already. Once this is done, merely run the extension NWN2 Launcher and you're good to go!

Otherwise simply run the regular NWN2 launcher and use Multiplayer: Direct Connect to connect to the server using the IP address listed at the very top of page.

Enjoy!

If you don't use the client extension all the time can you still run the game normally after following your instructions here?

I can't see why not? One would have to use direct connect in that case. The error listed here appears after a fresh install of any GOG copy of NWN2 when someone puts in a username (and password) and attempts to connect to GameSpy (which is now down, as we all know), so you can't actually get to the direct-connect/multiplayer connection menu until the CD key issue is resolved.

This is the work-around provided by GOG although their instructions are not very clear about how to use it.

No modification of the .ini files is required if this process is followed.

Edited and updated.

Same thing is happening to my daughter who is trying to log in on her own new account using my GOG cd-key. I did not, however, install the game on this PC with GOG. I used the purchase to get a second CD key, oddly, on my own account, I can log in and play with these, but my daughter cannot under her own account

I'll check this evening. I haven't had time to play the last couple days.

I have this same problem, I've recently redownloaded the game to dabble in the server again after a long period of absence. Booted as soon as I try to enter the server after selecting a character.

If you're using new CD keys, the Admins need to handle it - send a PM to Maecius.

The cdkey stuff is definitely sorted out, I think it's just not the same keys as I used previously. I'll send a PM, thanks!
