Fixing broken chests (Must read!)
Before I get started, I just want to say thanks Sam!! He's the one that showed me this trick.
Up until now, I had assumed that a broken chest (one that was stuck open) was broken for good until a server reset. You where never going to get anything out of it once it got stuck open due to lag, or the "loot all" button.
But no, it's not hopeless!! There is a trick you can do to get chests that are stuck open to close. I saw it done yesterday, and today tried it myself on a broken chest and it worked! The chest closed!
Here is how you do it. First, enter search mode. Then click on the chest to open it, and as soon as the chest opens use the WASD keys to step away from the chest. The timing has to be perfect, so it might take 10 or 15 tries to get it just right. But if you step back from the chest immediatly as you try to open it, it should re-close itself.
If that wasn't clear, let me know and I'll try to explain it better. I would never have believed this myself if I didn't see it in action. Try it! Our chest breaking epidemic might just be at an end!

Re: Fixing broken chests (Must read!)
Ive been doing this for a couple of weeks now. Thought people knew this already My bad
Although you dont have to be in search mode and you dont have to use the keys either. Just click on the chest to open, then just as you about to open click somewhere else. Should show the container screen for a second and then disappears and the chest closes. That easy. Do it that way and you will close it in 1-3 tries at most usually.
You overcomplicating it

I was told a similar trick not long ago; the one I was told was simpler, though.
Click to open the chest, and then quickly click away as the 'open chest menu' appears. This worked succesfully for me several times now. Thank you, Blackmans Death!
Edit: didn't read Tyrion's post. blah.

This is awsome...
two questions though...
1. is there a trick for those lag bags too?
2. I suggested in some other thread that catching someone breaking a chest because they are clearly too lazy to "take each item" should be grounds for immediate PvP without any further RP... can we still get that made an official PvP rule? [ok maybe I'm kidding ]

Re: Fixing broken chests (Must read!)
I've broken chests recently due to lag. I have looted items individually and I have looted "all" with the same result. When the lag is real bad I'll lose 1/5 of the chests I loot.
Anywho, hurray work-around!

I havent tested it with the bags yet. Havent had a chance since i normally dont create lag bags heh. Someone should try it. But it definitely works with the chests.

Re: Fixing broken chests (Must read!)
Breaking chests/loot bags should not be grounds for immediate PvP, since that just happens sometimes, despite good player habits.
Is there any way to have a player controlled "reset function?"

The same trick works on lag bags. BUT the trick doesn't work if you're lagging - or at least is impossibly difficult.

Re: Fixing broken chests (Must read!)
Yeah you'd not be able to fix the problem if you are lagging. Unfortunately breaking occurs the most for laggy players. Great to know if most of the crowd is leaving and there are broken chests and no reset in sight for hours!
Wonderful advice! I cannot wait to try this out!!!

*Bumping This*
I fixed two chests this way.
Just left click the chest and as your character goes to use it, hit the A and D keys and the lid shuts.

I have been using this as well. Works GREAT. It would be cool if we could get these kinds of tips on the "Tips" load screen box. Not sure how easy it is to change those or add to those though.
