For each person she would meet she would ask specific and non specific questions in regards to the interests of the numerous children under their care.
NAME: Maryss
AGE: 17
RACE/GENDER: Human Female
TRAITS: Enjoys gardening, herbalism, would rather spend time outside than inside.
APPEARANCE: Tall for her age, hazel eyes, tanned, slender, but not thin, light brown hair
CURRENT STATUS: At the Ilmatari temple, with no gardens at the orphanage she helps Sister Rachel much more, especially with the need for herbal remedies skyrocketing in a post-war city, when not needed she acts as a senior caretaker at the Orphanage.
Some Questions asked of Maryss:
1. In your opinion How many children are of an age that are capable of apprenticeship?
2. How many would be interested in learning to farm?
3. Would you be willing to provide me with a list of the names and ages of the children that have a clear interest in working with plants?
*Terri would thank Maryss for her time then search out the next caregiver on her short list*
NAME: Anne
AGE: 18
RACE/GENDER: Human Female
TRAITS: Enjoys helping with the other children, also volunteers some in the temple kitchen, is helping Juna running the Orphanage.
APPEARANCE: Very light brown hair, green eyes, lightly tanned, average build and height
CURRENT STATUS: Together with Sister Juna takes care of kid's studies and care, supervises Nicolas, Jessica and Vera.
Some questions asked of Anne:
1. As far as aptitude do you feel any of the children are capable of learning Arcane Magi-ca?
2. would you be willing detail me a list of children that have an interest in becoming a scholar or teacher when they reach of age?
*Terri would thank Annie then wait and hope for a somewhat detailed list of attributes of the potential apprentice candidates

Both girls would not feel comfortable speaking on those accounts and would kindly refer Terri to the head of the Orphanage, Sister Juna.

*having struck out with the younger girls Terri would wait patiently for a chance to speak to Sister Juna. When The sister would eventually have a free moment Terri would detail her idea* "I spoke to the younger girls but they felt uncomfortable with the questions I asked. I realize now that they would not want to appear to give favoritism towards any one of the children now. I really do however need to know a little bit about some of the ones who are most prepared to undertake an apprenticeship and where there Interests lie. I would like be pleased if you could provide some files on the ones who are ready to be placed so that I can find the best placement for them."

*Terri would then ask Juna the same questions posed to the younger girls. She would then ask permission to observe the children and interact with them some. She would ask if she could spend a few hours over the next couple of days to see where each child's aptitude level are set at. Terri would also ask if she could initiate initiate trust building exercises with the children to attempt to draw them out of any potential shell shock from the traumatic experiences they had underwent.*

DM Arrakeen wrote:It would take a longer moment for Sister Juna to find time to speak with the Administrator of Phoenix Company. When able she would greet the blonde woman, then she would listen intently to all the questions.

"I can't offer you exact numbers at this moment miss Lalani, because we are simply not having enough information, not to mention time to truly get into this kind of paperwork just yet. You will have to be patient and come back to me later on." Juna folds her hands. "But the majority of our charges are between 4 and 14 years of age. The youngest ones we would be willing to put up for an apprenticeship with trusted and vetted people would be around 12." Ilmatari reaches for a small, linen tunic she spotted laying on the floor and folds it. "Some of the kids have grown up on the farms so those would be probably willing to work in the fields or with the plants. Unless you are thinking about druid work?" Sister regards blonde woman with an inquisitive gaze. "This would be much harder to determine. The same goes for your question about scholars and magic. You have to remember many of those kids are still, more or less, in a state of shock or the adjusting period. Right now our main concern is to make them comfortable, find their relatives and assess them slowly." Juna smoothes her robe down her frame. "I can't at this point grant you access to the kids without a letter of recommendation from the Temples. Someone has to vouch for you. We are very careful about allowing outsiders to interact with children due to a rather turbulent past of this Orphanage. I hope you understand." Ilmatari looks up, hearing someone's muffled crying. "I need to go back to my duties now. Thank you for coming by and reaching out in this manner. Mercy's bless." The elderly woman lifts her robe a little and hurries up the stairs.

So far, the house lacks the sound level one would expect of three dozen children.
DM Arrakeen wrote: Sister Juna together with other Ilmatari and Anne could be seen busy with preparations regarding the relocation of some of the Orphanage's charges. Juna's words, "I can't at this point grant you access to the kids without a letter of recommendation from the Temples. Someone has to vouch for you. We are very careful about allowing outsiders to interact with children due to a rather turbulent past of this Orphanage. I hope you understand."
Terri would politely acknowledge the wisdom of this policy and then speak in turn, "I will seek out someone to vouch for me then and seek you out when I have the proper credentials, I very much appreciate your time." Terri would then return offer a Mercy bless back to Juna as she hurries off to perform her duties. Terri would then seek out someone who would vouch for her and provide a letter of recommendation.

Two northmen warriors and a blonde-headed shield maiden stride confidently through the city meeting each citizens’ gaze with a firm, but not aggressive look. Their long hair is swept back in the wake of the breeze creating by their movement. They are wearing ring-mail leathers overlaying fur-lined garments, typical battle axe tucked into their belts, round shields on their backs, all of which are in the best-of-order. The woman is similarly dressed, though about her waist is a wide leather belt interwoven with crimson and sky-blue ribbons cascading into a sash. A gray, white-tipped feather hangs from her hair at her left ear.

They approach the temple guards outside of the temporary orphanage building in the East Gate District. The woman steps forward and addresses the guards, “I am Nerys, Emissary of the Greyfox Tribe. I am here to seek council with your Sister Juna. She should be expecting me.” A few at the temple may recognize the woman, knowing she is a friend of Ameris and Telia Santraeger. Soon afterward, the three are led to join Juna.

The two warriors step back behind Nerys as she speaks. “Sister Juna, I am Nerys Greyfox, Emissary of the Lord Trasker Selarn of the Secomber Area of the Lords’ Alliance and my Greyfox Tribe. I am also wife to our Chief Cynric and your Sister in Ilmater, Layana, who sends her blessing from our camp. A few days ago I spoke with Telia Santraeger about the situation with the orphans in this walled village. I am now honored to seek council with you and to offer remedy to this situation with the large number of orphans.”

Nerys listens to Juna’s reply, then inquires, “Where are the children? I believe they too should her the offer I have for them. Please bring to us, those boys and girls, who are in need of a new home. I want them to hear my words and decide for themselves, with your blessing, if they want to return with us to the north.”

After some number of children are gathered up, Nerys addresses them, with frequent glances at Sister Juna. “Children, boys and girls, young men and women, we all recently endured terrible loses to the undead horde. But, Tempos guided the warriors of this land to gather together and defeat them in honorable combat. But the battle is finished, for now, and it is time to gather together in peace. For we are stronger together than apart. I am Nerys, shieldwife of the Greyfox Tribe. These men are two of our most honored warriors,” she motions to them, who each nod at their recognition. “Our tribe faced a terrible enemy, just as you and your city did here. We understand what you’ve endured, with the aid of Ilmater as led here by Sister Juna.”

“But, there are so many of you, that even with the best of help, it may not be enough for you all to grow up to be honorable warriors, or traders, or travelers, or whatever the wind guides your heart to do. We offer you, the strong of you, with a freedom-loving heart, to come with us. We will welcome you, boys and girls, to join our Tribe. You will have plenty to eat. You will have a dry bed and a tent over your head. We will teach you how to forage food from the forest. We will teach you the basic skills of a warrior so that you may defend yourself with honor. Some of you will hear the call of Tempos and join our warriors. Others will hear the call of Shaundakul’s north wind to wander far and wide, to aid those in-need on the trails, just as I offer you aid here today. All can learn the skills of making things from leather, or wood, or steel. You will be allowed the freedom to decide for yourself what you want to do as your grow to be a young man or woman. We are offering children who’ve seen five to ten winters… or older if of proper heart, to join us. You can become Greyfox and live freely in the north, or wherever the wind guides your path. We will be returning to our camp soon. Who wants to come with us?”

Sister Juna together with Anne would bring a chosen prior group of children between 8 and 14 years old into the common room to listen to Nerys' offer. They would sit on the floor, watching the member of the Tribe and her guards with curiosity and a little reservation.

Kids would start whispering to one another while listening to Nerys, buzzing with excitement and questions.

Anne would remind them to behave and listen quietly to the Emissary.

When Nerys' speech ended Juna would address her.

"Some of the children for sure will have many questions. I will send those to you then allow them time to make their minds."

Elderly Sister would turn at this to the charges sitting on the floor

"This is not a decision you should make lightly. I want you to think on it, let me know what questions you may have and I will send them to the Tribe."

Anne would then take all the children back to their rooms leaving Sister Juna together with Nerys and her guards.

"I am not sure if children younger than 8 should go, I hope you understand this." The old woman folds her hands together. "I will let you know of the questions they may have and then help with their relocation. Thank you for coming. We do appreciate this offer." Ilmateri sister would smile at Nerys and leave to tend to her duties shortly after.

On hearing Juna's reply, Nerys glances back at the warriors, "Their Shaman speaks the truth. This is not a decision the southlanders should rush into. Fools rush in." To which the warriors nod in a agreement.

Nerys addresses Sister Juna, "I'll return when you're ready. Please tell Brother Ameris or Telia; they know how to find us." She then looks to the children, "I look ahead to see you as the falcon does tomorrow's new valley."

She pauses to hear any reply.

Emissary,

We are preparing a group that would be willing to go with the Tribe. I am enclosing some of their questions beneath:

1. Can we take our belongings and/or toys?
2. Will orcs eat me?
3. Can I visit?
4. Is it cold in the tent?
5. I can't swim, can I go?
6. Are there many bugs?
7. If I go, I get a new mommy?
8. Do I have to eat lizards?
9. Will we stay close to rivers so I can fish?
10. Is is dark in the tent?

Lists go on to around 20something questions

Personally, I would want to know for how many children are you willing to make accommodations? Will they be always protected till they come of age? Will you teach them how to read and write?

I hope you are aware that some of them have never spent a night in a forest even. What about the older ones, those about 14 years old. Especially the offspring of the farmers, some of them want to go back to the life outside.
If this goes well, I want you also to keep me informed about kids' development and life at last once every three months.

1. Can we take our belongings and/or toys? Yes, but only if you can carry it yourself.
2. Will orcs eat me? No! We will protect you. You can learn to fight if you want.
3. Can I visit? Yes, our camp fires are always open to visitors.
4. Is it cold in the tent? It can be, but a thick fur blanket will keep you warm.
5. I can't swim, can I go? I can't swim too good myself. Yes, you can come.
6. Are there many bugs? I think there are less bugs compared to walled village.
7. If I go, I get a new mommy? Yes. Maybe two. The whole village works together.
8. Do I have to eat lizards? Only if you want to. Though fried tail is very tasty.
9. Will we stay close to rivers so I can fish? Yes. River is life. We always camp near a river.
10. Is is dark in the tent? Only if the candle goes out.

Lists go on to around 20something questions *answers each one*

Personally, I would want to know for how many children are you willing to make accommodations? Will they be always protected till they come of age? Will you teach them how to read and write? 10 to 15. Yes. If they want to learn.

Sister Juna, My answers to the children's questions are written above. We are honored that you are considering our offer. We understand some of the children may be new to living freely outside of walls or near the forest. We will teach them how to survive. The last thing we want is to force them into our life style. That is why I mentioned to Telia about choosing younger, than older children. The older ones may be more walled-in with their ways. Bad habits can be difficult to break. But children with an open and strong heart will be accepted. Those who do not want to be here with us will be returned.

You are always welcome at our camp to share our fires and council. Layana would be glad to see you again. She sends her prayers to you and the others at your Temple of Ilmater.

We look forward to your visit as the falcon to a new day.

Another letter reaches Nerys few days later
Emissary,
Thank you for responding to questions of our children. I passed on the answers to them during the evening meal.

With the numbers, you gave me I can tell you that at this point we have 4 children hell-bent on going with the Tribe. Given their upbringing and current state, I am more than willing to allow this. The only concern for me now is the two small ones, siblings to ones ready to go, that have been showing signs of mild trauma due to the loss of their parents. There is also a rather hard to handle trio of rascals that want to join the tribe as well. I'm enclosing some details about the children for your tribe's information.

Details about 4 ready to go + 2 small ones. ///More details in a PM///
The troublesome trio - they seem to have some odd bond going. They compete with one another for everything which sometimes ends in a fight. We suspect they all know each other from the time they spent on the streets. They were taken in together, all suffering from burns. Most likely were together in a fire.
Details about the trio. ///More details in a PM///
They are not bad kids, they just need attention and guidance and a place where their energy and focus can be put to a better use. I hope your tribe would accept these nine kids.
I still have four undecided so I will give them some more time to think on your offer.

Contact me by letter once the Tribe makes a decision.

Ameris leaves a letter made out to those at Pathfinders Hall on the table downstairs.
Merciful Lions

I attach a copy of Sister Juna's Letter to me regarding the basic expenses required for the children. This is for the children's upkeep, rather than appointing Pathfinder's Hall itself.

As you can see, some substantial sums are required. Luckily, the Ilmatari have collected donations to meet the first two months and Sister Juna is in receipt of the money and making arrangements as we speak. This would mean that soon after your own preparations are done the children can be moved.

The ongoing costs, to cover the forthcoming months, remains currently beyond the Temple's means, given other obligations. It may be that the donation drive that is forthcoming still, including at the upcoming celebrations sponsored by the Hunters of Vengeance, will meet this amount. If it does not, it may be that the Order of Lions end up recieving donations directly when word of their charitable intent circulates.

Either way we shall, I have faith, find a way.

Brother Ameris
Brother,

It took some time but the calculations are ready. It is based on what we usually spend.

36 children + 2 caretakers, lowest costs would include:

Food + some clothes + some toys + symbolic pay for the caretakers + basic hygiene toiletries = 4 bags per child.

Some of this can be reused. This way after the initial 2 month period, the cost monthly would be only 1bag.

Now:
[(36 x 4000) x 2months] + some transport costs = 290 000

Later:
[(36 x 1000) x 4months] + some transport costs = 145 000

For half a year period: 432 000

The first two months are most crucial therefore, this sum must be paid as soon as possible.
Once the Order of Lions has all the needed supplies and the place is ready for the children we could start preparing them for the relocation.

Crates are being seen carried to the Pathfinder Hall and soon, three dozen children with two caretakers are seen stepping inside. The noise levels increase immediately as the children explore their new home under the supervision of adults.

Telia would ask that the children be given some time to settle in first before so that they are not overwhelmed by guests. She would point any towards the Orphanage which has over one hundred children in a building near the Temple of Ilmater and mention that the children there need some love and care as well.

She places a note in plain sight:
Subject: Church of Ilmater RP

It would be clear that only those who have been vouched for are allowed to see the children, as the safety of the children is taken seriously. The doors to the quarters where the children are unless supervised by a caretaker or another adult, are always kept locked.

While the children settle down, Telia does not impose on them herself other than to greet them and tell them who she is. She also warns that they must be careful with any cats in the house, both little Silvyr and big Simon. Simon the Lion would still be kept in the office and when he is in the lounge, he is under supervision.

Telia herself, would then have gone to the Orphanage and told the children there some stories and sang a couple of songs.

Ameris seems to be burdened with paperwork in the evenings he spends in Pathfinders Hall after returning from duties in the temple and in the city at large. He is seen: poring over and making records in an Amnian style accountancy ledger; agonising over the wording of what looks to be a formal letter to religious superiors; drafting a difficult notice relating to some issue with donations; composing more casual letters that seem to be anecdotal recollections; poring over what seems to be a long and excessively distressing contract.

Clearly the arrival of the first of the orphans, a small group of children who can be fed and clothed with such supplies readily available at short notice, makes leaving papers scattered around more difficult. While this group is moving in, Ameris moves his paperwork into the suite upstairs.

Ameris would introduce himself to these first children and thier caretakers when he was able, wearing his skullcap and priestly robes in order to provide them some continuity. He would adopt gentle tones as he speaks; but his lack of experience with children other than as patients makes his delivery something between Ilmatari bedside manner and an address to a body of troops.

He speaks of how he was a priest of Ilmater and would be one of those keeping them safe and healthy here. He would say that if any of them ever needed to speak of anything they were concerned or afraid about, they should just come to him and ask. He would tell them not to be afraid if they saw men in armour around, that they were just to protect everyone, and that each and every one of them had good hearts.

He would tell the children of Simon the Lion; but say they should stay away from them unless an adult was present. He would explain to the caretakers that the children should be kept away from Simon the Lion as the old lion could be dangerous.

Tarina largely tries to avoid the children, when she can. She doesn't have the energy for even small crowds, let alone large numbers of active children. She's moved her bedroll into the winery next to the kitchen, sleeping there so that the children can bunk in the upper bedrooms and the basement.

As an active shaman, it's possible that Tarina's spirit companions may create some amount of subtle 'fuss' in the Hall. This would likely be nothing harmful to the children, but they may notice odd and unexplained happenings around the building. This may include candles that refuse to be doused, faint and indiscernible whispers from the fireplaces, and the occasional object or shadow that seems to have a mind of its own.

Koryeneer comes by with a large wagon laden with gold and toys for the orphanage. He would knock politely and wait for a door person to answer upon answer he would explain that he has brought a large sum of gold to go to the orphanage courtesy of Hunters of Vengeance and patrons across the Coast.

///Will a DM please remove 200k worth of gold from Koryeneer for the RP? This was gold raised during the Winter Festival for this purpose.

The arrival of the first group of orphans
DM Arrakeen wrote:Six kids following Anne and another guardian enter the Pathinder Hall as the first group of the three dozen of children that in time will become residents under Order of Lions care. In the first couple of hours, the little group stays together while they being walked around and start settling in, placing their sparse belongings in designated spaces. Husked conversation, nervous giggling and sheepish grins would soon start showing.

And elegantly written letter arrives at the orphanage:

"Sister Juna; or whom it may concern:

My name is Liam the Golden, and having been away from the coast on business recently I have just returned to learn of the misfortunes and hardships the children are currently facing. And while I have been a generous, if sporadic, donor to the temple and orphanage in the past, I am afraid my offering to be some sort of caretaker may not work out (for the reason that many children would be at the very least put off by my horns).

As such, I am left with few options for me to ease your burdens, but this option is still available to me. Included within this letter you will find a deed of trust transferring control of my home within the East Gate district to the orphanage. While I understand the problems inherent with having some of the children in a potentially unsupervised location, my thoughts were that you could clear out some storage space in your current facility to make room for more beds there, and use my home as a storage shed. Or, have some of the adult refugees move in to my home in order to make more room for the children.

In addition to this, I am also sending a sum of gold to assist with the furnishing of any new sleeping arrangements you can make, to hire workers to move whatever goods you deem fit to move, and to otherwise ease the burdens of your current situation.

I hope this donation can play some part in the care of the cities youth, to make up for my failures in the defense of the city itself. I have had it drawn up in such a way that all you need to do is sign it.

Sincerely,
Liam the Golden

P.S.- As a bard I would also be happy to come and entertain the children should it be requested, but as a reminder, I do have horns, and I would rather not take the risk of unsettling any youth who are already traumatized."

(There is another document included in the letter)

"DEED OF TRUST

This deed of trust made between Liam the Golden, hereafter refered to as "owner" and Sister Juna of the Children of Mercy Orphanage of Baldur's Gate, hereafter refered to as "borrower," signifies that the borrower holds a controlling interest in the property of the owner located withing the East Gate district of Baldur's Gate so long as the property is used to benefit the care of the cities at risk youth or otherwise used to benefit the operation of the orphanage.

This deed will expire if:

Borrower refuses an inspection by owner.

The property is used in such a way that does not serve the children of the city of Baldur's Gate, as deemed by owner.

The borrower acquires permanent facilities sufficient to the task and the extra space is no longer needed.

The population of the orphanage remains below it's maximum capacity for a period of three months.

One year passes from the date of this document.

The owner of the property retains the right to access and inspect the property with the borrower present if fourty eight hour notice is given, in order to ascertain proper uses of the property.

This deed does not grant right nor privilege to owner to inspect the children nor any of the borrower's other non-public facilities, not any non public facility owned by the temple of Ilmater or the Order of the Radiant Heart Auxiliary.

Signed by Owner: Liam the Golden
Signed by Borrower:
Date: (whatever today's date is in game time)"

Included with the delivery is a parcel containing a key the promised sum of gold.

((I couldn't really include an address since we don't have them, but assume that the deed mentions a specific home, we can deal with the gold thing next time a DM involved in this plot is on))
