Lore Skills and Classes, bugs

This is a topic to collect bugs concerning classes that should or shouldn't have certain lore skills.

Please verify with a D&D source whether a specific class should have a certain lore skill before reporting. We will verify as well - but it costs us time to check erroneous bug-reports.
  • Classes which get the stock LORE skill will continue to have LORE, but its re branded as Lore (arcana). The lore skills are additive. They don't alter / replace the original class skills and skill requirements.
Primary external online reference used is here.

From the other bug thread:
Rhifox wrote:Not necessarily a bug but...

Spirit Shaman only has Lore: Arcana as a class skill. According to pnp, it should have Lore: Geography, Lore: History, Lore: Local, and Lore: Nature as class skills.

Meanwhile, Favored Soul has every Lore as a class skill, when according to PnP it should only have Lore: Arcana.

Ranger has Lore: Dungeoneering and Lore: Geography. According to PnP, it should also have Lore: Nature.

Warlock has every Lore as a class skill. In PnP, it is only supposed to have Arcana, The Planes, and Religion.

Swashbuckler has Arcana, Religion, and The Planes. In PnP it is not supposed to have any Lore skills as class skills.
References for the above are:

Spirit Shaman - Complete Divine
Favored Soul - Complete Divine
Ranger - Player's Handbook
Warlock - Complete Arcane
Swashbuckler - Complete Warrior

I've looked through all of the base classes and all of the rest seem fine. I've not looked through the prestige classes, since those are more difficult to check (can't just select on char creation).

I think it is worth addressing the bardic knowledge ability and what lore skills it should apply to here as well. It is currently only applying to Lore Arcana. Considering the original intent of the ability, it should probably be added to Lore Arcana, History, Local, Geography, and Nobility and Royalty.

Note I added a link to one reference for Lore/Knowledge in the OP.

Compare against the Classes on the same source.
PC1 = Nerys, Emissary and Skald of the Greyfox tribe, roaming north near Secomber
PC2 = Valqis Sanejmeh; far away cartographer, Oracle of Nut at chaltin QulDaq, former navigator of the Sea Seeker, Reader of Candlekeep and sometime performer.

Can I ask how items will affect lore in the future? Will it add to lore across the board?

Excellent question. I highly suspect the current IG Lore enhancing items, plus Skill-Focus Lore, all go to what is now Knowledge/Lore - Arcana (skill #7 in the index).

Theoretically, we will need to create Skill-Focus, Epic-Skill-Focus for the eight new categories too. Then add items that may enhance other skills. One thought are to use Skill-boosting books. Then some books will have a mechanical value instead of only GP at local shop.

What is present now is only an initial Framework. A foundation on which to build more.

As for PRC requirements w.r.t. old Lore (#7), those probably need to be looked at too.

IAW Lore in OP Link, bard, wizard, and wizard PCRs get "Knowledge (all skills taken individually) (Int)". That said, it was a really tedious endeavor to go through 70 class skill sheets, find reference Lore (if it exists) and update the 2DA file. :? I maybe missed a few. Some others may be subject to constructive debate where there is not any Canon Lore. If there are differences between sources, DM/QC will sort it out with player input in-mind. That is what we do.

As of the most recent time I looked, it appears that Bardic knowledge adds no lore points to any of the lore skills, instead of just to lore arcana. Please tell me this is not working as intended? :P

Staff is discussing what to do with Bardic Knowledge. The baseline Obsidian code puts Bardic Knowledge points into Lore, which we recently re-named Lore (or Knowledge) Arcana. If we can change the underlying code (not "hard coded") then expect changes on this.
