History

Born in the Year of Thunder, Bregedahr Goldcloak was the second born twin. While this might’ve been viewed favorable in the Shield Dwarf community, for a Gold Dwarf this was not as favourable. As such, Bregadahr not only felt the pressure to conform to the expectations of him, even when doing so, he felt not enough, or rather, too much. But, we’re getting ahead of ourselves.

Bregadahr was the second born of a twin, in the Year of Thunder, like many other twins of that year. His parents both worked in the clergy of Moradin. Though not clerics per sé, they were worshippers and servicing in Thuulurn, the monastic settlement dedicated to Moradin, in the Deep Kingdom. As such, the same was of course expected of Bregadahr and his twin brother, Gailen.

As they grew up, Gailen grew to be a Sonnlinor, a cleric to Moradin. Bregadahr showed many of the same aptitudes as Gailen, yet somehow never got the same recognition as Gailen. Perhaps it was his wit, and sharp tongue. Or his greater aptitude to merchantile, haggling and diplomacy, which were not in line with his parent’s expectations. This carried on for years. They both worshipped as much, did the same work, yet Gailen was lauded, and Bregadahr felt unwanted, unloved, uncared for.

Years went by, and Bregadahr started getting more and more resentful. It felt like even the gods were against him, as Gailen got spells, and Bregadahr got nothing. One night, when Thuulurn was mostly quiet, Bregadahr entered the shrine to worship. To ask Moradin why not even he could love him. The answer came, but not as Bregadahr expected. A sudden surge of greed overtook him, and he grabbed all the riches he could. He felt crazed, and couldn’t get enough. He found a knife adorned with gems, and ripped gems out of statues with the knife, grabbed everything of gold, grabbed all the loose gems he could and filled his pockets. But he made too much noise! He heard someone coming in a hallway, and made a run for it. But he was too late…

Just before the dwarf from the hallway came around the corner, a globe of darkness and silence appeared, however. Bregadahr didn’t think twice and continued his run. He didn’t stop running until he reached Eartheart. There, he grabbed some loose robes and fabrics, to hide himself, should word travel.

He carried on in a hushed pace, until he was out of sight from the Deep Kingdom. He took on a new name, and has been traveling ever since.

Later

Leaving the Rift, he traveled through Calimshan and Tethyr, trying to set up shop as a merchant and trader. He soon learned that Amn was known well for it's trade, so he travelled on and settled there for a while.

He got to know a halfling merchant named Perritook Barleymane, whom happened to speak fluent Dwarvish. They got to know each other a bit, with Bregedahr telling him parts of his history as well. It didn't take long before they had a healthy competition, looking to see who could amass more gold. Bregedahr won, and while it hurt Perritook's pride a little, they remained friends. After their little competition, Perritook started calling Bregedahr "Urem Dal", a name that quickly gained traction under his clientele. While most people didn't know what it meant, Bregedahr ... or, Urem, always had a little laugh (with Perritook, were he near) whenever he got called Urem Dal.

After a couple of years in Amn, he got used to getting called Urem Dal. Though occasionally, he'd still use his old name.

Currently

Urem Dal is splitting his time between Baldur's Gate and Kraak Helzak. Rumor has it he is looking for citizenship in the dwarven Kingdom.
